Q: Any mothers planning to breastfeed and smoke MJ?

Hey ladies!
I'm sure some of you out there indulged in some bud before your pregnancies, and are DYING to start back up, like me, are you waiting till after you're done breastfeeding? Or will you start up once your little one is born?
In MY opinion, marijuana is completely safe. And although some THC will pass through my breast milk, I believe it can be nothing but beneficial. And I do plan on smoking the moment my baby takes a nap when I bring him/her home.
It'll make me a calmer mother, and who knows, maybe the THC will make my baby calmer and more content.

What're your opinions on this matter?
Have you smoked during breastfeeding with your previous children? How did they turn out, perfectly normal?

Please no hate, this is just an opinion based poll!

Wow!! You really should have held off on becoming pregnant as you are too immature to have kids. Once you decide to have a baby the partying (drinking and doing drugs) stops and you grow the hell up. It's part if being a parent. When I'm not pregnant I do have a drink or two once every couple months but I don't overdo it and I don't use drugs. I especially wouldn't while nursing a newborn. One can only hope that if you are dumb enough then cps will get called on you.

There's no solid evidence it causes miscarriage?? Are you serious? During my second pregnancy I was smoking a lot since it was during a time my daughter was with her grandma and I was in a ver abusive marriage and I didn't find out I was pregnant until about 6-7 weeks along and as a result I had a missed miscarriage that was directly linked to smoking. I've refused to even look at the stuff since so get off your high horse on how it's so good and there's no evidence!! I didn't have a hard time getting pregnant with this baby but women who choice to become pregnant do so with that baby's best interest at heart, not for the attention they get or to keep a guy.

Your response to the comments are not helping your cause. Cursing at women who are being honest because they are concerned about the health of your child only makes things worse.. Do you not realize that the majority of the users here are mature women who have been trying for a long time to have a baby. You are young and careless, stop defending yourself and try to be an adult. The adult thing a mother would do is to keep her baby safe, a mother's job is to provide their child with safety, comfort, love and food. If your receiving government assistance than how is it you can even afford to smoke? That is a very expensive habit.. Before you go blow money you don't have on drugs provide your child with the things it will need. Diapers are not cheap. In short, take the time to educate yourself before coming here and making yourself look like an undeserving fool.

Personally I do not care if she smokes, does drugs, parties all the time.. I hope she will be a good parent and make good choices and put her child first and over her own wants.. hopefully she talks to her doctor and listens to what he says.. if he says smoke away go ahead I hope she doesnt but whatever.. any type of drug is bad for the baby no matter what.. that is the reason behind the only tylenol thing. And that is why everyone puts a big deal on drinking and doing anything that can be considered illegal anywhere. I just hope she goes to breastfeeding classes and ask a profesional who has gone and done all the research and done research of her own. And asking her doctor. it shouldn't even matter what we say. but she asked and we told.

You said "please no hate", yet you are the one with hateful words. If you are going to get so defensive about using drugs while breastfeeding don't ask for other people's opinions.

Studies indicate that "exposure to this drug while breastfeeding and should be counseled that continued exposure of their infants to cannabis may produce severe long-term neurobehavioral consequences - See more at: http://www.infantrisk.com/content/effects-marijuana-fetus-and-breastfeeding-infants".

If you did proper research you'd easily be able to find the unbiased answers to your question. Or, better yet, why don't you just ask your doctor about it??

I love how everyone rates the only sensible answer on here 'no not helpful' you're all ignorant, and I'm done with this question. this has proven that this site is not for support, and if you want support you better meet 'perfect parent' standards. It's ridiculous
What about epidurals? Most women out there get it now and how many side effects are there? Fetal distress, causing a fussy baby after birth, it hinders the baby's ability to nurse, bond and recover properly after delivery, longer labor = more effects of it.
BUT ALL THAT IS OKAY!? Are you serious!? Do you guys see how RIDICULOUS you sound now? You're willing to give your baby a drug cocktail because you're in PAIN during labor? But you think a little MJ with has NO real side effects, is going to make ME a bad parent!? Yeah.
Try to tell me all about sacrifices now.
Peace.

I would wait yes its natural but a newborn is so small and enough is passed through ur milk to cause ur baby to test positive there are studies that show it slows and harms synapses or connections in ur brain it will do the same to the baby. Examples of this is u smoke feed the baby by the way it can be passed as long as u would test positive on a drug test u are less alert and it may suppress the babies beathing. If u have to smoke I would recommend a sober partner to remain with the baby and I would pump out the milk and pour itt down the drain until u dnt feel high any more. Not passing judgement everyone has there thing but this one I think baby would b safer if u pump and dump formula feed or just wait.

I'm really gobsmacked. I went through IVF to get this baby and wouldn't jeopardise her for anything, even if she wasn't IVF actually. Everything passes through your breast milk .....would you shove a joint in your babies mouth as that's exactly what you might aswell do!!!

Makes me glad that it's banned over here if people think it's ok to do it whilst pregnant or breast feeding or with kids in the house in general!!!! :/

You should ask your doctor. I'd love to see the expression on his/her face :) Especially if you live in a state where mj hasn't been legalized.

So you are not on a prescribed medication for this? You shouldn't be doing it.

It is very bad for the baby. When breastfeeding everything you do goes to baby... There is a lot research out there about this to read up on... These women on here have probably gone from countdown to pregnancy to this sight.. so they probably have been waiting forever to have a baby and when they se this it hits a really soft spot..n they don't appreciate it... I would do research on your own.. it sounds like you will most likely do whatever you want even if these guys (who are very up to date on everything pregnancy and baby) say not to.. so do your own research please. I personally do not think you should do that when breastfeeding or around baby at all!
