Q: When should I tell work?

I work at a dog and cat boarding kennel and I had a miscarriage a few weeks after I told work (what would have been 12 weeks for me). I am now 6 weeks pregnant again and wondering when I should tell them as to avoid having to share the awful news of m/c if it were to happen again. We are like close knit family of less than 10 employees but it was SO hard to have to tell well-meaning people my baby was dead.

Keep in mind part of my job is changing litter boxes of anywhere from 5-20 cats daily. Which I had heard is a biiiig no-no. Should I just tell my boss and have her keep it hush-hush so she can assign someone else the cat duties?

Just don't know what to do! I think I'll feel better after my ultrasound next week if there is a heart beat.

I had to tell my employers as well due to upcoming business travel ....
The way I saw it was if I miscarried they would find out anyways , as we work closely together . If it happens at least I will have some comfort at work . Good luck and congrats !!
Ps , absolutely STOP changing cat litter !!!!

I agree with the other posters. You shouldn't be handling cat feces due to the risk of toxoplasmosis. Notify your boss & tell your other co workers when you feel ready! Congrats!

I would at least tell your boss so he/she could keep you away from the cat litter. Get him/her to keep it hush until you're ready to tell everyone!
I know how you feel- we miscarried in 2011 after telling a lot of people. We were so excited to be pregnant after TTC for so long that it was hard to keep it in. We had our son in 2012, and are pregnant again, and we've only told the closest friends & family. Best of luck :)
