Q: Employment Termination Question

So as of today we found out thatcher store location will be closing as of March 24, 2012. Every employee received a letter offering a replacement due to the fact that the corporation owns many other salons in fact over 120,000. I was the only one not offered a another job because "I would be going on maternity leave anyways" for the full year and that because of that they could guarantee me a position for after my mat leave. But the thing is there is multiple positions available in many stores and from information I found online on our country labour website that its discrimination and I should be offered another position for my return. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I even question it?

legally they are supposed to treat you like every other employee as long as you can do your job. The thing is that they may have a loophole here that doesnt apply to you bc of the fact that the store closed down. for example, they may have been offering the jobs to people as courtesy not as a mandatory thing and in that case there isnt anything u can do... I would question my manager either way bc you need to know, If that happened to me right now it would be hard bc i NEED to work until the baby comes and trying to find a job when ur pregnant is bad enough (they will never hire you. its illegal i know but they can say they dont want to for any number of things like over or under qualification). Its really not fair unless ur expecting to leave in a few weeks i dont see why or how they could do this to you unless like I said, they found a loophole. Good luck!

its against the law for them to NOT offer you a position just because you are pregnant. I would question it, or better yet complain to someone with legal authority !
