Q: Anyone ever been diagnosed with Lyme disease while pregnant?

I am currently 10 weeks pregnant. I waiting for a final result (which takes around 10 days) to find out for sure if I have Lyme disease. My question is have any of you or anyone you know been diagnosed and everything was fine with baby? I am terrified that something is going to be wrong or I am going to miscarry. I have an ultrasound on July 31st. And that day can not come fast enough!! Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Hi. I had it and was treated just before I got pregnant - were ttc at the time, so asked a bit about it. The docs told me that they didn't know of any cases of the baby being affected if mum had received treatment (antibiotics) during pregnancy. The sooner the better - even if Lyme is only suspected you should be treated immediately to reduce the risks to you (& the baby) - I had the EM rash and flu symptoms and that was enough for me to be put on antibiotics - didn't even do blood tests! Make sure your doc repeats the blood test 6 weeks or so later if you think you've caught it recently & the first bloods are negative, since it can take 4-6 weeks to show up in bloodwork anyway. Def ask to be put on antibiotics (check with the dr they're safe when pregnant - doxycycline is usually used for Lyme but isn't safe during pregnancy) ASAP, even before the tests are back if they think it's possibly Lyme and I'm sure you and bub will be fine. Best of luck.
