Thankyou everyone for your comments. I work with children between 0-18 with varing disabilities. I think I will wait until ive seen my GP this week to confirm how far along I am and then tell my boss.

I told my boss at 4 weeks. I'm on my feet a lot and do some heavy lifting, also I have a history of being high risk. I'm glad I told him early because I'm in my 7th week now and I haven't been able to work all week due to m/s and dizziness kicking my butt..I actually ended up in the er for iv fluids due to dehydration. Also when I was a CNA(certified nursing assistant) in a nursing home I told everyone early because of the heavy lifting but I was also on an Alzheimer unit and some of the residents could become violent. So it might be advisable with your job to at least let your boss know whats going on so they can be better prepared for if you need time off or need to leave early. Good luck on your decision and congrats on the pregnancy

I told my boss at 5 weeks (but not my colleagues) I had really bad morning sickness so i had to have time off work and do some at home, so him knowing was kinda necessary !

I'm also a special ed teacher, I told my department head and a few of my colleagues fairly early (around 4-5 weeks) in case I had any problems. I don't know what grade level you teach (I teach high school but I don't currently have any students that require me to lift), but you shouldn't be lifting more than 30 pounds or so. If you have to do any transfers, you will probably need help if they are larger students. Don't do anything you aren't comfortable doing. Most of the people I work with didn't know until I was about 9 weeks (I work at a large school, but once I announced it on facebook, they all knew) LOL Congratulations!!!

I wonder too sometimes, I am coming up on 8 weeks. I have been so moody and extremely tired all the time I surprised no one has asked me. I have my first u/s next week to hear the heart beat, but I think I'll just wait until month 3.

I'm a special education teacher, and have lots of lifting to do as well! I told mine @ 5 weeks. I told them early for several reasons, 1. I was very sick 2. I ended up being on bed rest for 2 weeks and I'm glad I told them bc it is very hard to find subs/long term replacements in this field! Best of luck, I hope everything words out for you! H&H 9 months!
