Q: Early Maternity leave

Hi just wondering if there are any other nurses out there who are expecting or any ladies that work 12.5 hour shifts and are on their feet all day.

I am 45 years old and 20 weeks pregnant, I work 12.5 hour shifts and with my traveling time my work days are 14 hours long, I am on my feet most of that time and don't know how much longer I can keep this up. I am thinking about starting my maty leave 11 weeks before my due date, just wondering if anyone else took there leave so early. (I am taking a year off).

I'm a nurse and with my last I just took three weeks off before my due date which I ended up delivering the first week I took off. With this one I'll probably do the same, but I'm also not taking a year off afterwards only my measly 6 wks. If I had a full year to take off then I would say go for it!! Enjoy some you time before delivery and get some much needed rest!!!

I left 3 weeks before my due date and I was happy I did. I made up a bunch of meals and portioned them into dishes so I could freeze them for when baby is here and I wouldn't have as much time/energy to cook. Also nice to enjoy a bit of time at home before your life changes forever. I made sure the house was organized and was really ready when I went into labour. I am not a nurse nor do I work 12.5hr shifts, but I know when I'm on my feet all day, my back aches and I'm pretty tired. I'm 35 and 21 weeks pregnant. If you feel it's too much def take your leave early. Just keep in mind that means your mat pay will end that much sooner!
