Q: Full time work during first trimester.

Hi ladies. I'm just coming to the end of a lovely 3 week holiday with my family and struggling with nausea and fatigue. I'm due back to my full time and full on job in a weeks time and dreading it. I'll be 9 weeks pregnant with my first child when I go back and work long days, starting early too, on my feet as a bakery manager!! My bosses will assess me to make sure my work won't harm me or baby but I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to tackle sickness and more importantly fatigue on a working day??? One thing I can't do is step down my hours or leave the company for a part time job as I'm entitled to good maternity pay when I'm off with baby.

Thank you...some great advice for me there!!! I am lucky to have a partner who's willing to take care of me and the house so that's a huge plus. I'll get myself sorted with peppermint and make sure I get early nights. I may be able to have a nap in the staff room during lunch breaks too. I want to try and keep my news from the rest of the staff until I'm 12 weeks but I'm sure they're bound to guess what with me not lifting like I would usually be, feeling tired and sick and turning my nose up to smells and food lol!!!

I have not tried this because my nausea at 8 weeks has not been too bad (just queasiness). But I have a friend that said she also used peppermint, and for the fatigue she would nap in her car on her lunch breaks. Don't know if that is an option for you, but might be worth a try if it is an option.

Peppermint worked for me too...as well as no cold liquids especially on an empty stomach. Also, I had to ask for meds from the doc. I was given zofran disintegrating tablets and they worked for nausea and vomiting immediately...within seconds. Then, yes...plan to go home and sleep. Hopefully you have someone willing to help keep the house picked up, dishes and laundry done at least. You can do it! For me, the nausea didn't pass til 20 weeks, but for most women it's gone by 16 weeks. Good luck!

I went through 10 hour days without lunch breaks my first trimester as well with terrible nausea. What I found worked for me was peppermint mints and peppermint oil mixed with my steamer. When I got home I crashed and did it all over again the next day. Another thing that helped me as well was no cold drinking water, I actually still have my water out in a pitcher on the counter because the cold water made things worse. Hang in there you can do it. Good news for me was my nausea went away around week 11.
