11 Weeks Pregnant

Your Pregnancy Week by Week

*Counting from the first day of your last menstrual period

Your Baby at 11 Weeks

Your baby is the size of a lime at 11 weeks pregnant - Pregnancy Week By Week Size: 1.61 inches (4.1 cm)
Weight: 0.25 ounce (7 grams)

As the first trimester is drawing to an end, your baby is now considered a fetus versus an embryo. Her little heartbeat should now be audible through the Doppler stethoscope that your doctor will use during your routine visits; the steady swooshing sounds of her heartbeat will be wonderfully reassuring to hear.

Tiny fingernails are now developing on tiny fingers and will continue to slowly grow during the next several months. Your little one might be ready for her first manicure when she's just a few days old! Baby's external genitalia are now becoming more distinguishable but it is still too early for a sonogram to accurately determine your baby's gender.

Tiny legs and arms are now kicking, although you still won't feel the fluttery movements for a few more weeks. Baby has also started practicing the swallowing reflex.

Mom at 11 Weeks Pregnant

Mom at 11 weeks pregnant - Pregnancy Week By Week All things are status quo when it comes to the expected nausea and feelings of exhaustion that you may have been feeling in the last few weeks. Your body's blood supply has increased in order to keep up with the demands of growing a small human being. As your uterus is rapidly expanding, you might start to feel the pressure of it in your abdomen.

You're still not showing a visible baby bump yet but your favorite pair of jeans might start to feel a little bit snug around the tummy so now is the time to start asking friends and family members if they have any hand-me-down maternity clothes that may fit you. You may just find that you have more than enough people in your social circle willing to donate gently used clothing to help you both feel more comfortable and also save your budget for buying new clothing for the baby.

Common Symptoms:
Your nausea and exhaustion may still be your constant companions. Along with these two familiars, you may start to feel the beginnings of ligament and muscle aches and pains as your body starts to relax them in preparation for future task of giving birth.

Tender breasts may have been one of your earliest pregnancy symptoms but you may notice this week that the tenderness has increased along with the size of your breasts. As the rest of your body is working hard on growing the baby and preparing for delivery, your breasts are working on getting ready for nursing your baby once she arrives.

You may notice that your hair is feeling fuller, looking shinier, and also that your fingernails seem to be growing rather quickly. Thank those hard-at-work pregnancy hormones for this!

Weight Gain:
Your bathroom scale may have crept up an extra pound or two this week but it isn't something for you to be overly concerned about just yet. The fear of gaining too much weight during pregnancy is a fairly common one; however, by following your doctor's guidelines for your diet and exercise regimen, you should be able to manage the amount of weight that you do gain. Some weight gain is expected and often needed, especially if you were somewhat underweight to start with.

Remember, also, that making healthy eating choices can help you to control the pregnancy hormones that are inundating your body. As your nausea allows you to, expand your dietary tastes to include healthy choices that can provide you with the nutrients that your body needs.

Tips/Advice:
Start an exercise routine. As long as it's okay with your doctor, consider enrolling in a prenatal yoga or water aerobics class. If you haven't been exercising prior to the pregnancy, just take it slow. If you are used to physical fitness, you may continue your normal routine for as long as it's comfortable and safe. Running and jogging will be fine for the next few months, but activities like karate, kickboxing and gymnastics may need a bit of tweaking.

11 weeks 5 days according to my scan. Generally feeling weepy and stressed but have been happy until now. I've lost some of the nausea but still need my daily biscuits in a morning to ensure it is kept at bay.
