8 Weeks Pregnant

Your Pregnancy Week by Week

*Counting from the first day of your last menstrual period

Your Baby at 8 Weeks

Your baby is the size of a raspberry at 8 weeks pregnant - Pregnancy Week By Week Size: 0.63 inches (1.6 cm)
Weight: 0.04 ounce (1 gram)

Your little one is now about the size of a raspberry but certainly acts a lot more like a little jumping bean with all of the moving about that he is doing. Eyelids are developing and will have almost completely covered what will become those baby blues that you will stare into for hours on end. Tiny hands and feet have developed from the arm and leg buds; little webbed toes and fingers will be visibly protruding from these hands and feet that you will find so adorable!

Baby's tail-shaped appendage is slowly but surely disappearing so that your little one will soon look more like a baby human than like a tadpole! The organs that will allow your baby to breath in oxygen and carry it to his lungs are starting to develop from his throat down to the branches of what will develop into a set of healthy lungs.

In his forming brain, neural pathways are starting to develop at a rapid pace so now is the time to beef up your prenatal vitamins if you are not already taking them.

Mom at 8 Weeks Pregnant

Mom at 8 weeks pregnant - Pregnancy Week By Week Your prenatal vitamins might be contributing to your nausea as they can often have a strong iron smell to them; however, talk to your obstetrician to find out what alternatives that you have available to you. With your morning sickness now settling in, you are going to be desperately avoiding anything that contributes to your nausea; however, skipping your prenatal vitamins could just be detrimental to your little one's growth and health.

Have you decided when you are going to tell everyone that you are now expecting? The general consensus amongst those who are wary about the possibility of a miscarriage is to wait until the first trimester has passed and the risk of miscarriage has been greatly reduced. You might find it nearly impossible to keep it a secret from your close friends and family, and even from a few of your coworkers who notice your visible rejection of their having a tuna fish sandwich for lunch.

With your hormones in flux at the moment, it might be a good idea to tell at least those around you who may be at the receiving end of one of your emotional moments. If you have been on antidepressants for some time, now is a good time to have a frank discussion with your medical professionals in order to carefully manage your depression in a manner that is safe for your developing baby.

Common Symptoms:
Along with your nausea, that could be your constant companion from sun-up to sun-down, you may also be feeling a lot more tired even if you are getting a full night of rest. While it can be tempting to forge through the exhaustion, you should remember that your body is accomplishing a rather big feat by growing an entire person! Unless you are one of those fortunate few who never suffer from morning sickness or pregnancy-related nausea, you can expect these feelings to linger for a little while longer.

While your uterus is growing at a very rapid rate, you are unlikely to be showing much of a baby bump just yet. However, your favorite pair of jeans might just feel a little bit snug if you are feeling somewhat bloated. Just remember to drink more than enough water in order to help reduce a bit of the bloating.

Cramping and what might feel like tugging sensations are also possible at this early stage in your pregnancy. You may feel tenderness on one particular side of your ovaries, this is completely normal but if the pain seems severe then you should be certain to mention it to your medical professional.

A bit of light spotting could be experienced; however, anything more than spotting should be immediately addressed with your doctor. As your little one gets more cozy in his new home, it is possible for small pieces of your uterine lining to become dislodged so don't panic too much if you do experience some spotting.

Weight Gain:
No significant weight gain should be expected at this stage of your pregnancy. A bit of water bloat might be pushing the numbers up on your bathroom scale, but that will come off.

Kick those bad habits. If you smoke, drink alcohol or do any illegal drugs there is no moment that is too late to quit. If you had a few drinks and then found out about your baby, most of the time you won't have to worry—babies are actually protected from most dangerous chemicals in mom's body until 7 weeks. If you need help stopping, talk to your doctor or a trusted friend or family member. Your baby needs his or her best start at life, and it's up to you to provide it.

I'm starting to think that all of the tips to keep nausea away are bs at this point. I haven't vomited but I have certainly felt it come pretty close..

7wks 4days and nausea is kicking my butt. Don't know if it's worse to actually hug the bowl or feel like you have to and nothing :-(. Question anyone else suffering with insomnia?! What can I do?

I have been experiencing spotting the past few days, went to ER everything was fine, followed up with my OB and he also said everything was fine and baby's heart was beating at the normal rate. 8 weeks 1 day today.
