Your Pregnancy Week by Week

Your Baby at 22 Weeks

Your baby is the size of a zucchini at 22 weeks pregnant - Pregnancy Week By Week Size: 10.94 inches (27.8 cm) - crown to heel
Weight: 15.17 ounces (430 grams)

A growth spurt has put baby weighing in just around a pound! Your little one looks so much more like a tiny person now, complete with eyelashes and even eyebrows. With an increasing sense of his environment, baby can now perceive the comforting sounds of his home; including your heartbeat, your voice, and even soothing music that you play to him.

Reacting to the difference between light and dark, your little one might reward you with a few playful punches or kicks if you shine a flashlight onto your belly. This is a great way to let your partner get a chance to interact with the baby!

While your baby is further developing and maturing his organs like his heart, lungs, brain, and intestinal tract, his developing sense also allow him to feel his face, tug on his ears, and even play with his toes or discover the joy of sucking his thumb!

Mom at 22 Weeks Pregnant

Mom at 22 weeks pregnant - Pregnancy Week By Week With your beautiful belly protruding very noticeably now, you may find that an increasing number of people are reaching out to touch it. Some women have no problem with their belly's being rubbed, touched, or even made a huge fuss out of; however, if you are not exactly the touchy-feely type of person then you should be sure to let people know this in a firm but friendly manner. Failing to let your feelings be known will just open you up to another few months of well-meaning people touching your belly against your wishes. The majority of people will understand your reluctance to have your personal space invaded, especially if they are moms themselves! Simply politely ask them to refrain from touching your belly, or even take a large step backwards when hands start to reach for your beautifully growing belly.

How are things going with the progress on your baby's nursery? It is going to get a lot more difficult for you to accomplish decorating and organizational tasks in even a few short weeks. With this in mind, you should be certain that you are working on your to-do list and also taking the child birth, breastfeeding, and parenting classes that are often offered free-of-charge by most hospitals.

Common Symptoms:
As your uterus is growing larger and heavier, it is putting an increasing amount of pressure on to both your bladder and also on your rectum. While this is just one of those not-so-glam sides of pregnancy that ladies don't like to talk about, an increase in flatulence is a frequently seen symptom of pregnancy. Be certain that you are drinking plenty of water in order to keep yourself hydrated and also keep from becoming constipated. Foods that are rich in fiber can help to keep things moving in a positive direction. After all, you are already carving a pathway to the lady's room due to the pressure on your bladder; the last thing that you want is to get constipated and spend a lot more miserable time in the bathroom than you need to!

One of the symptoms of pregnancy that you may have been dreading almost as much as stretch marks might include varicose and spider veins, which are very frequently seen in pregnant women. With the increase in the volume of blood in your body, combined with the extra weight that you are sporting, your circulatory system could be struggling to keep up. Keeping your weight at a doctor-approved level and keeping off of your feet as much as possible can help to relieve some of the pressure on the veins in your legs. Support hose might also be a good option for your legs.

Your shoes could be feeling a little bit snug as of late. This is attributed, in large, to the fact that all of the ligaments and joins in your body are loosening up; while the primary reason for this is so that your pelvic ligaments will be relaxed and loosened in order to help your body through the labor and delivery process, all of your ligaments are affected - including the ones in your feet. You may find that you need to go up half or even a whole shoe size during pregnancy! Invest in a pair of comfortable shoes that can help to see you and your feet through the next few months.

Weight Gain:
Be certain that you are drinking enough water as well as eating foods that are rich in fiber. This combined with healthy meal choices and at least 30 minutes of exercise every day will help to ensure that your weight stays within the recommended realms for this stage of your pregnancy. Some studies have also demonstrated that a diet high in fiber can help to reduce the risks of developing preeclampsia.

If you find that you are losing weight during your pregnancy then you may want to discuss this with your medical professional. While it is generally a cause for alarm when a pregnant woman starts to lose weight, if you started your pregnancy significantly overweight then your new healthy lifestyle and eating habits could be helping you to shed excess weight. However, still be certain that you are forthcoming with your doctor when it comes to explaining your eating and exercise habits so that she can make a determination as to whether or not you are overdoing things.

Tips/Advice:
Know the signs of preterm labor. Preterm labor symptoms can be subtle. Notify your doctor if you have any noticeable contractions, intermittent back ache, vaginal bleeding, or gushes/leaking of fluid ASAP.
