Q: Family doesn't like our sons name.

We are having a baby boy and naming him Dexter Allen, Allen is his fathers middle name and Dexter was the name his father loved the most. I also really love the name and this its perfect because people will call him "Dex" and my name is Alexis so people call me "lex". The problem is people are very open about not liking the name. When we announced to the whole family it was a boy and what his name was I saw my mother in law make a face and roll her eyes, then say to everyone "Its a name that has to grow on you" I was furious but kept it in, her and I don't get along well. My aunt right on facebook said "I don't like dexter what about blah blah blah, but I will love him just the same, its your choice" No shit its my choice, he's my son! How do I handle this? I know I should just ignore everyone but is the name really that bad?

Ignore it. Or just flat out tell them to quit hounding you about it, that it's none of their business. I don't think many people in our family like the name we've picked for our little girl, but oh well! It is what it is and all that matters is that WE like it. Everyone else can just put up or shut up.
