Q: First Trimester Testing/Screening

I am going on Monday the 12th for my 13 week (off a week due to doc on vacation) appt. They had asked me about the testing they do at my last appt I believe for Downs and some other disorder. Apparently they don't tell you if the baby has anything but just the chance you have? Did anyone do the testing or what information can you give me. Is it just a lot of unnessary worry?

I didn't get tested, at my age 27 the chance is 0.08% I figure with a chance that low it is what it is. They test you and i think it comes back like high risk or low risk, then you can get a test done from the babies amniotic fluid or something. My doctor told me if you test the baby you have a 1 in 200 chance in losing it. If I was older I might get it done, but not at my age now.

If there was a chance the baby could have it they will tell you and then you could be sent for more testing. All they do it draw your blood and if it comes back with higher risk they will call you and tell you, but if they dont it's nothing to worry about. I got test done to be on the safe side.
