I had mine done 2 weeks ago and my little peanut had its legs crossed firmly!!! Luckily, he was also hiding his face and head, which the technician needed to check and measure, so i was sent for a walk around the hospital to get him to move. I returned about half hour later and he showed us the goods and she was able to measure his head and he blew us a kiss ! ... so i got to find out I'm having a son in the end! :) Good Luck !

Oh yes unless your baby is being difficult you should bve able to find out what your having=) Anatomy scans go over exactley that all of the anatomy, They will measure from head to toe and look at their brain and heart development and other body parts <kidneys and such>. It'll prob take a little while as they usually get pretty thorough with them, when we had ours I'll bet it was 30ish min and then she came back and did just some fun pictures for us or at least tried too our lil peanut decided they had had enough and snuggled into mommy and wouldn't move to get pictures taken. Good Luck!

My doctor told me that they wont tell you unless you ask. I have mine in about a week. They will def be able to tell as long as the baby isnt in a awkward position. I bumped into a long lost friend of mine at the maternity store and she is 6 months and said they cant tell with her bc the baby is in a strange position every time so I guess it does happen sometimes but I dont think its very common.
I am also worried about this bc I am DYING to know.. plus i dont have a ton of money so knowing would help the budget a lot. I was planning that if the baby is in a position where they can't tell, I would wait a couple weeks and go have the gender scan done at one of those 3D US places bc they can see more than they can through regular US, plus they will re-do it free of charge in most of those places if the baby IS in a funny position until they can tell.. i think it said they would ask you to come back in 2 weeks.

I'm glad you asked this question. My anatomy scan is tomorrow too. I do know that doctors typically tell you the gender between 18 and 22wks. Good luck tomorrow!!! Hopefully neither of our babies will be modest :)

Wow! So this will be the most in-depth u/s so far. I just want the baby to be healthy of course:-) I wouldn't mind having the added bonus of gender if the little monkey is cooperative! Thanks for your help!

Usually after 18 weeks, the tech can determine the gender, as long as the legs aren't crossed. I didn't have my scan till 21 weeks, but I believe between 18-22 weeks is the best chance for them to see. The scan takes a long time, so if the baby moves during it they may get a chance to see if if they couldn't before.
They check EVERYTHING from head to toe. Body measurements, they check to see all the organs to make sure they are there, right number of them, etc. Everything they can see. mine took 45 minutes...
