Q: is it okay to continue metformin during pregnancy?i am prescribed it for treating PCOD

i dont have gestational diabetics but i am taking 1500mg metformin/day for PCOD

With my first, I took it first trimester only. With my second, new reasearch showed that it was a good idea to continue entire preg., and I and doing the same with this my third. First two very healthy and third is as well!

Most OB's have you stay on it though your first trimester, afte that if you have not already they will have you do a glucose test to detemine weter you have gestational diabetes or not and based on those results your doctor will decde wether you stay on it or they will wean you off safely for you an your baby. I was on 500mg and the doc had me take it up till week 12. She said that there has been some research about it helping prevent miscarriage, not confirmed of course, still under lots of debate, but it will not hurt anything either.

my doctor has me taking it through the first trimester. My Endo. told me it is not harmful but my OB said he wanted to to take it through 1st trimester only.
