Q: Gender?

Hi ladies, I am going for an ultrasound this week (at 12 weeks 4 days), and was going to ask the tech if she can tell if it's a boy or a girl. Do any of you think it will be possible to tell at 12w4d??? Otherwise, I have to wait until the "anatomy ultrasound" I have scheduled for MAY 21! I don't want to wait that long if it's possible to tell beforehand! Help!

They can't tell you with any certainty at 12 weeks, because both parts can look the same at that age. I've never heard a guess before 16 weeks. Accurate results seem to be between 18 and 22 weeks. We found out at 21 weeks ours was a girl, and the whole time we thought boy! But it was very accurate by then, there was no doubt about her girl parts!

The tech couldn't tell me anything at that point. I did guess the gender correct though. When they showed me the whole baby it looked really smooth down there so I thought it had to be a girl.
Sadly to know for sure you have to wait for the later scan when everything is much more developed.

I tried that and I was 13 weeks. Doctor said even if you looked you wouldn't be able to tell which gender it was because its so small and "undetermined." I think though if you had a really good ultrasound machine you may be able to tell.

It's highly unlikely that they will be able to tell that early. The genitals look about the same. I think the earliest they can tell with any amount of accuracy is around 16 weeks. I found out during my anatomy scan at 19 weeks and it was very clear. You might have to wait like most of us do:-) Good luck!!

its still a little too early to tell. around 15 wks or so is when parts start dropping. i posted my 3d ultra sound from 13 wks and it looks like a boy but im not going to hold my breath. you can check it out if you want. but good luck
