Q: When did you hear babys heartbeat with a doppler?

Hi ladies, just received my fetal doppler in the mail today! When did everyone hear their babies heartbeat for the first time with one? Or how about any tips/tricks for using one?
I'm 10w6d today, but am a bit "fluffy", tried the first time and couldn't find it.

I would consider myself more than a little fluffy lol! I had a Doppler with my first child and could never find the heartbeat on my own, just a bunch of static and feedback! Finally gave up trying out of frustration, maybe Dopplers have changed in the last 4 years to be more sensitive. My doctor couldn't find my babies heartbeat until 15 weeks this time around, which was kind of nerve racking, but apparently it likes to hang out around my major artery and the babies HB couldn't be heard over my own! Good luck! I would have loved it If I could have got mine to work!!

I found the heart beat at just under 9 wks with my first, still waiting to try with this one :) THe trick was patience, being slow and meticulous and starting at the center of pelvic bone & angling down into the pelvis, having some urine but not to much in your bladder helps. What type of doppler you have also influences this as well, some are just better than others. If you have a 3mhz it might be longer for you to find a heartbeat than with a 2mhz since you say you are "fluffy".The 2mhz has a narrower beam but it penetrates deeper than the 3mhz. Don't get discourage, there are some sites online with recordings that really help you know what you are listening for. if the reading is over 180 then you are probably getting a doubling effect from your own heartbeat echoing but if it's between 120-180 (though usually 130-170) it's most liekly the baby. Early on the baby has lots of room to move so pinning them down to listen to their heart can be tricky.Good luck & happy

I finally found mine at about 12 weeks. The trick is to have a semi full bladder and put the doppler pretty low on your pelvis bone. The baby is still laying low and your uterus hasn't moved up yet. It sounds like galloping horses and is quite different from other sounds that the doppler can pick up (mom's HB or arteries). You will know once you have found it. I probably would have found mine earlier if I would have put the doppler low on my pubic bone. Good luck!

I'm also "fluffy" (loving that word...lol) and I wasn't able to find it until around 12 weeks. I read to try using it with a full bladder and I like the idea that babyh had about looking it up on youtube too. I also know now that I have an anterior placenta (which could be part of the reason it took me a little while to find her). The important thing is to not freak out if it takes you a little while to find it. I would get upset and then give it to my DH and then he'd find the heartbeat in like under a minute. My doppler has two headphone jacks, so if you're not having any luck, see if your partner can join in the fun too (they are a little less emotional than we are) :-)

I myself am a tad "fluffy" and I received mine at about 9 weeks and thought I heard things but didn't fully know until right about 11 weeks. You may get a high number, anything over 120 is probably picking up the baby, but sometimes it mixes with your artery or even your own heart beat. I watched YouTube videos so I would know what it sounds like compared to the other sounds you pick up. It always took me like 10 min and then sometimes you have to push down and angle the stick to get a good reading. And that silly little thing moves!

I heard my baby's HB at 10 weeks, but even the Dr. was surprised as that is early. Normally it is around 12 weeks. Don't get discouraged if you don't hear it...I also went at 12 weeks and the other Dr couldn't find it...long story short, U/S and I'm now 32 weeks. The baby could be in the wrong position, it could just be too soon to pick it up on a doppler. *Luck and Prayers*

I got one when I was around 9 weeks. It took quite a while to be able to find the heartbeat because baby hides behind things. There were a couple sessions when I gave up and tried again another day. I believe when I got to week 13 it was easy to find from that point on. Just remember not to get scared if you can't find it, baby is so little it can be difficult. Good luck!

I don't own a doppler but ours was found at 11 weeks 3 days. Some ladies though, it was not able to be found till after 12 weeks. I know that another girl on here suggested laying flat on your back and propping up your pelvis with pillows, it also just maybe too soon yet. Don't get too worried or discouraged though!
