Q: Anyone else had an "EIF" show up during a 20 week scan?

Ok so I had my 20 week scan yesterday at 21 weeks haha! Anyway, my Dr said they found a EIF on her heart and that is a soft marker for Downs, well she did not seem concerned and said that was the only thing that they have seen so not to worry about anything. UM not very easy at all! Im not so much worried about Downs, but what affect will this have on our daughter long term? Like will she have heart problems, or how does all of this work. I have googled, and that is a terrible idea. So Im asking for my Mama friends to help!!!

Echogenic Intracardiac Focus is a small bright spot seen in the babyâ??s heart during an ultrasound exam. This usually represents mineralization, or small deposits of calcium, in the muscle of the heart. An EIF has no impact on health or heart function but some research suggests evidence of a slight increase in the odds of Downs. But not all research agrees to any connection between EIF & Downs at all. When EIF is the only anomaly found during comprehensive u/s it is pretty much considered unconnected, so your baby is highly unlikely to have downs. EIF found mid pregnancy rarely goes away but since it doesn't affect the baby there is usually no further testing done in connection with this finding. But I would discuss your concerns with your doctor, that is what they are there for :) and make them answer to your satisfaction, remember this is routine for them so sometimes they shrug it off forgetting how important and worrying it is to us. Good luck and best wishes
