Hi. i gained massive amounts during my first 24 weeks, in the region 16-18lbs, and at my 20 week scan i was told my bubs was going to be a whopper, however now at nearly 30 weeks everything has evened out, my weight gain has really slowed down and the health problems i was really worried about i.e. diabetes and pre-eclampsia, are non-existent. Try not to worry, as long as you're getting the nutrients you need and you and bump are healthy then thats all that matters.

My weight stays pretty stead (to the fractions of a pound, I have a digital scale) then all of a sudden will do a big jump. I gained five pounds in one week, 2 pounds within 2 days, etc. But as long as those jumps aren't all the time I'm fine with it. You can look at my weight chart -my midwife is not concerned at ALL about my weight.

It is normal to gain the weight that fast in the beginning and throughout. Most likely you'll gain quite a bit in the beginning and your weight gain will decrease as you get farther along only to go back up toward the end. The baby takes what it needs and in the beginning most of the weight gained is from the growth of the placenta which baby uses for nourishment. You're probably just gaining that weight because the baby requires it.
Usually most women gain around 25 pounds during pregnancy so you're probably fine. If you do continue to gain dramatic pregnancy weight I would advise you to discuss it with your doctor and get tested for gestational diabetes which could explain excessive weight (more than the 25 expected.)
Also if you're taller that can cause you to gain more.
