Q: Is 11 weeks too early to find out sex?

I went to integrated testing ultrasound today and the tech said it looked like a boy but not to buy anything yet because it's still early. What do you all think? too early?

I have to disagree with those that say it is not possible, the sonographer we had at 11 weeks explained to us the new technology that they use to determine gender earlier now and I was surprised since it must be pretty new-I have a 4 and 1 year old that we did not get this done with. The fist answer was right, a baby at this point has a formation that will turn into a "girl" or "boy" part, depending on its angle, they can tell if it is a boy or girl. We found out at 11 weeks that we are having a girl!

We were told the earliest is 12 weeks but my midwife won't send me till 18-20 weeks so that we can be as sure as possible.

Everyone, beware when you find out this early!! My sister-in-law found out at 14 weeks that they were going to have a 2nd little boy. Kannon Joshua actually turned out to be Kamryn Lynn, and my niece will turn 1 next month! And she was going to a specialist with the best equipment and techs that knew what to look for. I'm not saying this will always happen, just be sure to double check a little later on, preferrably before you decorate a nursery 8)

I'm 12 weeks and I'm going to have my NT scan tomorrow and I'm going to ask! I'm pretty sure they can tell at 12 weeks depending on which way the baby is laying.

11 weeks is too early to see gender on ultrasound. I found out with my DD at 14 weeks 1 day that she was a girl. At 14 weeks (pretty much the earliest you can get an idea of gender on U/s), the u/s tech is looking for genital tubercle angle...not actually "hamburger or hotdog" yet- which can be seen around 18 weeks;). This technique for genital tubercle angle is pretty iffy at 14 weeks- the tech has to be really good at it. When I found out @ 14 weeks, I went and registered for baby items- but did mostly gender neutral at that point because I was not sure I could trust the tech (She said I could paint my room after that u/s because she was positive). But by golly- every u/s after that said she was a girl...and she is the prettiest little 1yr old girl I know;)

Boys and girls both have a protrusion that looks the same that early. If you get a perfect view and you can see the angle it is possible to "guesstimate" the sex by the angle but I would put no stock in it that early. Either way they have a 50/50 chance of being right.

I found out at 14 weeks I was carrying a boy. You could clearly see a penis. 18-20 weeks is old school, they have clearer, better ultrasound machines now. It is still early though!
