I learned quickly that newborns and shoes don't really go together. For one, they outgrow them so fast they rarely get to wear them, for two, they generally don't like them, socks that look like shoes are the way to go(tons on the market and on etsy.com). Thats what i'm doing with my second since my first son didn't wear shoes till he began walking.

A friend of mine had her baby in the fall last year. For winter, she bought a snowsuit that has foot compartments/booties as part of the suit so that if baby was outside, the snowsuit covered everything but her hands and face. It saved a lot of frustration for getting her into and out of her winter gear, just a snowsuit, hat and mittens. Maybe you can find a snowsuit like that and then look for springtime shoes for when your LO might start cruising and taking first steps?

My son didn't wear shoes until he learned how to walk and it was such a money saver. My SIL bought shoes for my niece and they never stayed on right anyway.

When my son started walking at 10 months, he wore a size 4.5. Sizing can be very tricky, so I'd recommend saving your money and just investing in socks for now. If you really want something more than socks on his feet, go with Robeez. They last longer and won't inhibit crawling the way hard soled shoes will.

My first child (boy) was born in the middle of Winter and I rushed around and bought probably 5 pairs of shoes. They were extremely cute, but I think he only wore 2 of them ever, and not very much...maybe four times each. The others were a waste of money & when I had baby #2 (boy) 17 months later, it was the middle of Summer and he was a much bigger baby, so I couldn't even use them for him. I would save your money!
If you really want to purchase the Uggs, I have a pair for my daughter that was given as a gift and they definitely run small!

Previous poster is right.. you probably won't need too many pairs of shoes. I found all of the "cute" ones weren't so functional anyways. I had some Ugg-like boots for my baby and the darn things kept slipping off her feet. The Robeez (or robeez-styled shoes) are a lot better because they are made more like slippers and have elastic around the back of the shoe to keep them from coming off so easily. All of that said... if you are anything like me, you want what you want (lol) and if you are interested in ordering the UGG booties I would go for the 2-3 size since you are about to give birth soon. Those should fit when your baby is around 6 months....but that sizing is very general and depends on your kid. For example, my daughter's feet were a little on the small side, so she wasn't wearing a size 3 until she was around 9-10 months old.

Do you really need to buy shoes for your newborn? I've been doing a lot of reading on what's actually necessary for a newborn and a lot of different places say shoes are just a waste of money. Why not just stock up on thick socks or sleepers with feet?

Just a money-saving suggestion.
