Q: decreased appetite at 8w

I'm 8w today. I was put on bed-rest because of a miscarriage scare. Sometimes I have no appetite. Would my baby still get the nutrients if I don't eat much? Like yesterday I had some curry and 3 slices of bread, 3-4 medium strawberries, 1 pineapple slice, 1 kiwi, 2 Oreo cookies with a glass of milk. I know I didn't eat much but I have no appetite. When I do want something to eat, I'm too tired/lazy to get up and make something for myself. Plus I am taking more than the recommended dose of vitamins.

You probably still want to check with your doctor on the vitamins (but it doesn't sound like it's too much of a difference so I'm sure it's fine...but better safe than sorry). Hopefully things will get easier for you soon:-)

No, I'm not taking additional vitamins, the dose is just a little bit above from the recommended dose. For example, pregnant women need about 400 mcg, but the vitamins I'm taking has 700 mcg. same goes for iron, 27 mg for pregnant women but my vitamins contain 29 mg...

I didn't have much of an appetite in my first trimester (I didn't have morning sickness, I just wasn't hungry), but I definitely made up for it second trimester;-) Now that I'm in my third trimester I'm noticing the lack of appetite again but I think it's due more to the lack of space in my ever-expanding belly. As long as you are trying to eat and taking prenatals (and you're doctor isn't concerned) you should be okay. If you are too tired to get up, see if your DH can make little meals for you and leave them in the fridge (quick and easy) since you're on bed-rest and shouldn't be getting up much anyway. Is your doctor having you take additional vitamins or are you doing that on your own? Klara is right, you might need to make sure you aren't taking too much. Good luck:-)

At 9 weeks, I weighed the exact same as in week 1. So, little/no weight gain is perfectly normal. Be careful with those multivitamins, though.... getting too much of a good thing isn't always good for you, especially when it comes to blood soluble vitamins, iron and other minerals. I would check with your doc or a health nurse to make sure that you're not overloading on vitamins. Hang in there! :)

Honestly, I am almost 12 weeks and you ate more than I normally do. I haven't had much morning sickness, but I haven't had much of an appetite. I was told that its normal and even normal to lose a few pounds during first trimester. Just eat what you can tolerate is what I was told and then by the time the second trimester rolls around you'll have more of an appetite and can start eating healthy. Just make sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins, that's very important.

yep your baby is fine.. quite literally sucking every nutrient you have which is also why us mamas sometimes feel like crap. Especially in the first trimester. I was sooo so so sick in the first trimester I lost 15 lbs, by 10 weeks i looked anorexic...but my baby was just fine in there.. thriving away . Putting on weight and eating healthy, nutrition is most important when you enter the 2nd trimester but I never ate either in the first trimester. Some days couldn't even keep down water. So I wouldn't worry about it too much yet. :)
