Q: Does this ob/gyn make any sense??!!

Ok so I called yesterday morning to schedule an appt with my ob/gyn after getting my bfp saturday thinking she would want to see me soon considering I m/c at 6wks in may and I was told that she would see me at the end of October when I was 8wks!!! She said nothing could be done until then? What about prenatal care and testing?? To me this made no sense with my other pregnancies I was scheduled in the week I called atleast to confirm the pregnancy. What do u ladies think....keep the appt or find a new doc? Thank you for your answers!! God bless!

My doc saw me at 6 wks but my ob knew about my prior m/c. When I had my m/c I told the doc that when I get pregnant again and scheduled an appt he better give me one asap. I have a great OB bacause he actually listened and allowed me to address any concerns I may have had.

My numbers started slowing down at 6w, and by 6w5d, we were in the hospital ER with what everyone - OB and ER -- thought was either an ectopic pregnancy or a uterine miscarriage. I was on progesterone supplements in case the latter, and constant watch in case the former.

Bottom line is, we finally ruled out an ectopic pregnancy, but thought we lost the baby (or blighted ovum) and then, voila, the ER caught a surge in HCG. A week later, when we went to confirm the loss in U/S, the doc found instead ONE healthy baby, and one mass that looked like a dead twin. Doc was so surprised. She's given us a clean bill of health and told us to go home and celebrate a normal pregnancy for now, and she will see me in 3 more weeks to confirm loss of twin. She laughed and said, "it teaches us to start early"....meaning, if I hadn't have been so worried, I wd never have known about the dip in HCG, or mourned the loss of our baby when in fact it was developing normally all this time.

While it is normal to wait until 8 weeks, it can be very discouraging to have to wait that long when you've already lost one and don't know what's going on with this one!

My doc's staff told me the same thing at 4 wks -- that she wouldn't see me until 8 weeks. I insisted b/c I had some lower left side pain and cramping. When I finally did see the doc at 5 wks, she told me to never let the staff push me around. If I was concerned and I wanted to see her, she said to call either herself or ask for her own nurse (really nice lady), and both would make sure she sees me that very day. Great doc. Staff not so great. (It's a hybrid office of two docs, and the other docs' staff leave a lot to be desired.)

Anyway: my story. My doc did blood draws every other day and tracked HCG and progesterone. Numbers dipped at (continued next msg)

most docs wait to see you until 8 weeks. i had a miscarriage in march, and the doc said she'd keep a closer eye on me with tests and things with the next one. when i became pregnant this time, the nurse scheduled me for a visit during week 8. i was feeling anxious all the time, and called to request the 48 hour hcg testing. they do a blood draw and then do another one 2 days later and the hcg should double. call your doc's office and request the test. they should be more than willing to help you get some peace of mind by doing it, and if they hesitate, get a different doc. sometimes the staff doesn't realize you had a miscarriage or how much of an impact it had on you.

It seems normal. My doctor advised me of how to care for myself until i see her, but didnt want to see me until between 7-10 weeks, because you cant see anything on the ultrasound and they want to draw blood at the appt and then again 42 hours after to make sure HCG levels are rising. I am super neurotic, so this has been a test of patience for me! Good luck!

I think you should get a 2nd opinion then. This is your body & you sound very concerned & you have every right to be.

The only thing that scares me obviously is having another mc and since I'm unsure why the last pregnancy ended in mc I would just feel more comfortable if I had blood tests and things done earlier than 8 wks ya know?

Get another opinion. I sure did..the doctor I had wasn't concerned about me having surgery & being on drugs while pregnant, but when I spoke to another doctor she wanted me checked from head to toe & even ordered me an early ultrasound. I'd think in your case they'd want to see you every 2 weeks. My friend miscarried in July & then got pregnant again the following month(really dumb) but her doctor has seen her every 2 weeks since her 6th week.

My doctor didnt want to see me untiil the 8 week mark either. But I had no prior problems, no miscarriages or anything like that. if it makes you feel more comfortable, I would talk to another doctor.
