Q: Allergy Meds?

Hi, I have really bad asthma and allergies. Well, my doc woun't do appointments until 12 weeks, and I am only 5w4d. Well, my allergies are terrible and my nose is raw and scabby from blowing it sooooo much. Does anyone know what allery medications is any are safe during pregnancy, especially early pregnancy. I don't remember what I took my last two pregnancies but this time around they are much much worse. Thanks.

Ok update... I switched ob because my ob doesn't know diddly squat. Allegra is a no no, however I did take 2 of them the first 2 days that I used my neti pot. Now I don't need any allergy meds I just do the neti pot 2 - 3 times a day. Now I just hope those 2 allegras did not do any harm.

I have allergies and asthma. I see an allergist and Asthma specialist. She told me, and gave me, approved meds. whatever I was taking prior to pregnancy I should stay on since it is ok to use during pregnancy. My body is used to and so will be the baby. She prescribed Singulair once a day and told me to take Zyrtec once a day. Albuterol is only to take if you have to, since it is a rescue inhailer. But, if you have trouble breathing, your baby has less oxygen. I love the neti pot, it decreases my allergie symptoms.

I have systemic mastocytosis, which is a disorder in the mast cells - they control allergic reactions. Allegra is NOT approved readily for pregnancy - it's a Class C drug. I had to stop taking mine. Zyrtec, Claritin, and Benedryl are the ones that are preferred. You can also take an albuterol inhaler if your allergies affect your breathing and the Neti Pots are fantastic! Good luck!!

I have had bad hay fever about a month ago. My doc gave me a list of what otc meds I can take benadryl, allegra and claritin was on the list. So I took allegra but that didn't work out too well for me as I was still suffering. So my friend who was a yogi recommended the neti pot sinus wash system. The 1st day of me using the pot, I had to use it like 5 or 6 times because there was just that much crud in my sinuses and since then I've been using it when I wake up and before I go to bed in conjunction with my allegra that I take once a day. I've been able to breathe since. Oh and I also rub some vicks on my chest after I used the neti pot at night.
