Q: coffee...will it cause a miscarriage???

Hey ladies, I have a java addiction, and I'm just wondering if any of you also drink coffee. I drink a large or two every day but since I found out I'm pregnanct I've reduced my consumption to 1 large per day. I've read that we shouldn't consume more than 200mg per day. anyone else with me? Will this cost me my pregnancy? Or am I ok to continue with one cup?

Hello,
Congratulations! Although it has not yet been certified about any specific dangers that are exoected to be happening from coffee, but anyway you should not be drinking anything or eating anyhing in an excess amount. Consumr everything in a balanced manner. Caffiene is addictive in nature, so high disage of it can surely cause somehing within the child growing in you. Hoeever, you can drink almost 1 cup if coffee everyday as you are a java addict! Although, every person will have different views in the same, some will say it is safe to drink at least 1 cup in a day, while some will say that drinking ut is very dangerous. So you can rather be in between the both, and rather drink 3-4 cups every week. As long as you drink it in moderation you should be fine. If you are really worried then speak to your doctor. He/she can give you a maximum amount that is ok to drink. I really avoided caffeine in my first trimester, but once I hit second trimester I drank one cup everyday.

thanks ladies! It makes me feel better. the thing is, I've been pregnanct before, but I didn't drink coffe then, only diet coke. So Now that I know other mommies-to-be drink java I feel better. I read somewhere that drinking coffee is the same to the heart as running to catch the bus. So I'll stick to one cup and perhaps a pepsi or coke once in a while :)

I really avoided caffeine in my first trimester, but once I hit second trimester I drank a coke or two a day. As long as it's under 200 mgs you should be okay, but I would limit it as much as possible just in case:-)

I cut out caffeine well over a year ago, so I don't drink it anyway, but I agree with ef99744. As long as you drink it in moderation you should be fine. If you are really worried then speak to your doctor. He/she can give you a maximum amount that is ok to drink. Enjoy!!!!

Hey, I'm with you on this one, I used to drink about 20 cups a day before I was preggers but since I found out I cut it down to 2 cups and 1 can of coke a day so in my opinion you are absolutely fine, (and I'm now 20 weeks ) as the guidelines say, you can have a certain amount. However you will get people telling you different things and some will say no caffeine so just go with what you think. If you follow recommended guidelines you will be fine. :)
