Q: blood test at 16 weeks

I had the first part of the genetic screening test done at 13 weeks. I got a call from the hospital saying they want me in at 16 weeks for the second part of the test (which i guess is normal) and also that my doctor has ordered another blood test, but im not sure what the other one is. Did any of you have blood testing done at 16 weeks or so ? what was it for ? thanks

At 12 weeks they test use the ultrascreen that tests for down syndrome and trisomies 13 and 18. The 16 week screening is the quad screen that checks AFP that looks for neural tube defects and other anatomical anomalies and it further tests for down syndrome.

I thought the testing they did here at 16w was for down syndrome, and spinal bifida (sp?). But I can't be quoted on it!

Yes, I had a blood test & ultrasound at 12 weeks & then again blood test at 16 weeks. MY doctor said both are part of the tests to see any downsyndrome, Trisomy 18 & neural tube defects if any.
