At 12 weeks they test use the ultrascreen that tests for down syndrome and trisomies 13 and 18. The 16 week screening is the quad screen that checks AFP that looks for neural tube defects and other anatomical anomalies and it further tests for down syndrome.

I had my bloodwork done at 13 weeks for the first trimester screening of downs and the other trisomy defects. No other bloodwork has been asked for.

I thought the testing they did here at 16w was for down syndrome, and spinal bifida (sp?). But I can't be quoted on it!

Yes, I had a blood test & ultrasound at 12 weeks & then again blood test at 16 weeks. MY doctor said both are part of the tests to see any downsyndrome, Trisomy 18 & neural tube defects if any.
