Medical Compression bands, the ones meant to tighten your hips are not for use during pregnancy. Pregnancy bands are completely different and are called "support" bands :) And the "belly band" from target you mention is neither a support band, or a medical compression band, but it's merely an elastic fabric tube that makes your clothes fit better and stay on during/after pregnancy.

I've searched high and low, and Wink Shapewear is among the best out there for postpartum compression. They have different levels of medical compression, different styles, lengths and closures. The Belly Bandit is known to ride up, fall down, chaff and it just doesn't have the level of compression any of the Wink Garments have :)
