Q: After baby...

Hi! I haven't been here for a while but I need you ladies' help.. please..!
I am now 2 months postpartum and althoug I know it's not much yet.. I am getting so very depressed about my body.
My husband keeps commenting (he is completely void of tact..) and I don't know where to start!
I am still nursing so I know I can't diet too hectically.
Do you have any advice for me..?
I've started excercising again but I am extremely unfit now (was surprised how bad it got!) and am struggling to do half an hour.
What have you started doing? Is it working? How do you fit in a regime while caring for your little one?
Thanks

Yes, tell your husband he is being unreasonable and judgmental and it took your body nine months to complete and change for pregnancy, it will take at least that long if not longer for your body to be semi normal again. How rude of him to be like that! Everyone is different too, my sister is thin as a rail after two babies and I am chubby as ever lol. But when I lived in the bay area, we moved to Sacramento last year, I was walking every day with my daughter and eating lots of healthy food and I was losing weight then. I carried her in the baby carrier which helped because when you have extra weight on your body you burn more calories. Do you have a baby carrier and a good walking stroller? I walked with her in the carrier until I got tired and then I would switch to the stroller and power walk a little, but mostly walked briskly. Just start by doing what you can, you will get your stamina back a little every day. I know what you are going through, hang in there!

My first thought is to start working on your husband before your body. How dare he make comments that make you feel bad about yourself! You just had a baby! If you think maybe he doesn't realize how it is making you feel, talk to him about it. That just irks me that he is making you feel bad 2 months out of pregnancy.

Otherwise, a half hour is fine to start. As you get more comfortable, you can increase by 10 minutes every couple of weeks or as you see fit. Diet is a key part of it as well...not meaning you need to diet, but try to avoid processed and prepackaged foods.

Good luck to you hunny...and please don't be too hard on yourself! Your body just created and delivered a baby...amazing!

Great advice, Kermitpants!
In the USA and Canada, you can use runningmap.com for the same type of route planning and distance tracking. I love the site and use it to figure out the distance for my walks and hikes (I have never been a runner due to an old knee injury).

I guess its all part of personal tastes... but what worked for me after my daughter was walking. I did zero exercise during my pregnancy so was quite lame afterwards... Then I started walking and almost within a week I was walking 8 miles in 2 hours. Thats about 800 calories a day. Plus the 500-odd that you are using by breastfeeding.... that's quite a lot of calories out. Plus all the lovely fresh air for you and baby. :-) After a couple of months of this I had the stamina to attend the gym and fitness classes.

I dont know where you live, but in the uk there is a website called www.walkit.com and you can plot your route and see how many calories you have burned... its quite informative.

Good luck! :-)
