Q: Baby Eczema

My LO is 10 weeks old and suffering from eczema on face and arms. Doctor has gave me Aveeno cream and no advice, he didnt seemed to bothered. I just wondered if any of your moms have little ones with eczema and what you do to control it and treat flare ups? Thanks in advance.

My 5 yr old son has had it since he was 3 months. The dr can prescribe you steriod cream to treat the inflamed areas. Don't use any bath wash or lotion with fragrance. We usually used aveeno and burts bees. My son was also breastfed so they can still get this even if nit on formula. Also use laundry soap that is Free and Clear. Its sad to not use the fun baby smelling stuff, but it wil bring your baby relief. My son still uses the steriod cream and takes childrens zyrtec every day. We have gotten relaxed about soap because he wants all the 'fun' kid soaps. I also rub aquaphor all over him after bathing. When he was a baby I bathed him 2 or 3 times a week....to keep him out of the water. More I have to bathe him every day since he's bigger and gets stinky and dirty. Oh a heads up....your baby if more likely to develop asthma later since he has eczemza. My son had his first asthma attack at 18 months. Good luck ;)

Thank you. I am in the process of changing my washing powder so hopefully that will help. I have also been recommended to try changing his formula? so I guess that would be allergy based too?

It's not my little one with eczema, it's me.... but that said, I bet your LO is dealing with the same itchiniess that I get. First, for me eczema is allergy-related. I get it every fall when the leaves start falling off the trees and it stays with me until a week or two after the ground freezes when the flare-up goes away... so, if it is persistent, you might want to do an allergy test once your LO is a bit older to see if it's an environmental cause. As for treating the symptoms, I find that vitamin e cream is helpful to ease the itchiness and also creams with tea tree oil are very soothing. Also watch out for anything scented or washed with fabric softener as the chemicals make eczema flare up way worse for me. Good luck to you and your LO!
