Q: If you are planning to purchase a breast pump please read this

This is not a question but some useful information :) I was told by a friend that many insurance companies will now cover breast pumps for us mommies. I checked with my OBGYN and sure enough she said yes, this is a good thing brought on by obama-care. I called my insurance company (United Healthcare) and they do cover a double electric hospital grade pump at 100%. It could save you several hundred dollars so look into it!

sorry, it cut me off...but if I have to wait and call when baby is born, their turnaround time since it is already approved is just mail time. I still have the written prescription from my doctor and no one has said they need it so I guess I will just hold onto it for now. They did take my doctors information so I assume they verified through them that I was a patient and pregnant. I would suggest starting out by calling your insurance company and seeing what you need to do to get the ball rolling. It sounds like all insurance companies are supposed to cover them so it is definitely worth looking into. The pump I get is not a name brand but it is a brand used in hospitals and saves me $300 so I am not going to be picky :)

I was told to get a prescription from my doctor, so she wrote me one. I then called my insurance company and talked to them and they gave me a phone number to a medical supply company that they recommend. I called the medical supply company and they took all my info like my doctors information and my insurance information. The medical supply company verified with my insurance company what pump they would cover and it is almost a $300 pump. The only thing that sucks is that with the company my husband works for (Walgreens), they can't send it until baby is born. Right now we are in the middle of trying to get it approved so I get it at least a few weeks before baby is born so I can learn to use it and make sure it is all clean and ready to go. I guess it would depend on your insurance company and the company your insurance is through. I know of someone who has already gotten theirs and they are not as far along as I am so I would just ask. I figure it is free so if I have to wait

Do you just call your insurance company and they will set it up for one to be sent to you or what?

Most insurance companies were covering breast pumps before Obama was ever elected :)
