i think they try and wait at least until you reach the 12 week mark, they cant really tell anything when you are at 6 weeks because some babies heartbeats dont show up very strong until much later, but ask your doctor, you should go in for you first appointment to find out how far along you are and then go back in around 7-9 weeks and then they will want to see you within the next 4 weeks and will probably do an u/s but if something isnt looking right to you or something isnt feeling right go in right away and they should do an ultrasound to check on little baby. :) Good luck

I had mine at 7 weeks to confirm it was a normal pregnancy due to a previous ectopic. I've found that all doctors are different so I'd speak with your ob.

Around here, they usually don't give you an ultrasound until 20w, unless you're unsure of your dates. If you're unsure of your dates, then they will do one around 12w.

if this is ur first pregnancy with no prior bad history u will probably just go till 12 weeks, which is referred to dating scan...unless u think ur way off on dates or have bleeding they may not even check ur hcg levels...some drs just have u test with urine,do a blood confirmation n then set ur first nurse appointment for info and then first apt. btwn 9 and 12 weeks and then first ultrasound at 12 weeks :)
