And I can guarantee if your doctor doesn't think it's safe they won't perform one.

During my last pregnancy I had two. And this one I've had two so far and I'm only 12 weeks. The only problem is that the cervix gets more filled with blood and more sensitive. Sex can do the same thing. I remember having sex last time with my ex and there was blood everywhere. Went to the er and they said that it was normal.

Thanks everyone :) just wanted to add the letter does not come from the doctors surgery it comes from the national pap smear register. Also I have never paid for a pap smear so no one makes money of it :) Im thinking I would ratehr put it off until after bub but I will speak to the doctor and midwifes as I have had cancerous cells on my cervix removed before which is why I maybe should just ahve it done.. Thanks everyone for your help and replies :)

Doctors offices automatically mail those letters out when your past due (they want money). They wouldn't factor in your being pregnant when sending it. It's safe to do it if you want, best to do it if it's been years since your last one.

I personally skipped mine this year as I did it last fall and everything has always been fine so was not to concerned about putting it off until after the baby is born.

I had a PAP at 21 weeks and it was just fine. Did not even have any spotting afterward. I voiced my concerns to my OB and he told me I could wait or he would do a simple PAP; nothing too evasive. He even removed a small polyp I had at the front of my uterus while he was in there. It went great. Feel free to read my journal about it. Voice whatever concerns you have to your doctor and I am sure he/she will work with you. Hope that helps.

Just ask your ob. I personally don't think it's necessary that far along, your ob should do a swab test early on to test for anything beyond that you shouldn't need one.

I had one done at 21 weeks which caused me to bleed heavily. Baby was fine but it was a very frightening experience for me.
Was later told paps are not usually done during pregnancy as the cervix is more full of blood and likely to bleed and the results inaccurate anyway. I would wait until after your baby has arrived x

I had one at 7 weeks. I know its not anything close to how far you are, but I was told there was nothing to worry about. Hope that eases your mind a little bit. Good luck.
