Q: Follic acid

Been wondering, I told my dr that I'm taking pregnacare plus..she said at 7w I don't need multivitamins so she told me to take folic acid alone. She said i wont need multivits till week 11 or 12..Does anyone know if it's ok to switch now? Forgot to ask and can't reach her now

pregnacare did make me more nauseous..but i never threw up... :/ im so confused! I took pregnacare conception for 6 months before getting pregnant..then switched to pregnacare plus.. but now the dr is telling me to take follic acid alone...and that was before we talked about nausea..so thats not the reason she switched it for me..

If you are not getting nauseas from the vitamins then I'd say continue taking them as they can only help. If you are very nauseas and are throwing the vitamins up, that may be why the doc suggested switching to the most important part, the folic acid. I was throwing my prenatal vitamins up. I had taken them for months before pregnancy just fine but they were hard on the system after conception.

After 12 weeks my doc said I could switch to taking 2 childrens chewable vitamins daily instead. My blood work showed good iron stores...if your iron has been low then check with your doc as the children's won't have enough!

I switched from prenatal vitamins to folic acid at 6 weeks due to increased nausea. The iron and other vitamins can increase nausea. I switched back around 13 weeks and baby is growing great. I am now 19 weeks 5 days and yesterday baby measured 2 days ahead. I would not worry about switching it will be fine and baby will take what it needs from you!

This is exactly the same situation i am... I listened to my dr today and took only folic acid!! I'm alot less nauseous..some say pregnacare plus *what i was taking* increases nausea at this point...

HOwever, i'm really worried that the baby got used to all the vitamins..and feel malnourished?? or maybe it doesnt need those anyways?

I have taken pregnacare since week 6, i am 28 weeks now, and have felt great throughout. My iron levels have been consistently at 14.3 which my midwife said was perfect.
I am sure they have helped me feel so good and cant see why theyd be a bad thing?

I was told to take prenatal vitamins w/ folic acid from the time I was trying to conceive throughout my pregnancy to ensure the baby is getting all the vitamins she needs. I guess each doctor/ob is different.

Hi,its not really an answer, but i am also 7 weeks + and my dr also said to only take folic acid.I was taking pregnacare conception before i fell pregnant and am wondering if that actually helped me.I am continuing taking pregnacare plus now ...because I think that vitamins cant harm us in any way.But I will ask at my next appt on the Monday and let you know :) .tc and hope u feeling a lot better than I am..the tiredness and nausea is really getting me down and I cant wait to get to 13 weeks so that I can relax and enjoy being pregnant again
