Q: Can someone please refresh my memory?

Why is it bad to sleep on your back? and how far along should you be to stop sleeping on it?

Is it bad to sleep on your stomach as well? i know when you start to get a baby bump, its not a good thing, but is it ok at 12 weeks?

Thanks in advance for the memory refresher, I am to lazy to look up in the baby books I have already read last time I was pregnant...

My doctor said sleeping on the right side or back will limit blood flow to you and baby (pinches the inferior vena cava) after about 20 weeks. I'm 13+3, so he said it's fine right now. I'm planning to try to prop myself up like a hospital bed since sleeping on my left is very uncomfortable.

I was told by my OB that it was not an issue to sleep on my back for as long as it was comfortable. He told me that when you lay on your back your heart rate drops by about 7%, whereas when you stand up from sitting or laying down it drops 15%. He basically said that they don't tell you to stop standing so he did not see an issue with it. However he did say it would eventually get uncomfortable, which it has (I am 30 weeks, 3 days). I stopped sleeping fully on my back around 18 weeks and I now try to sleep on either side, however sometimes when my shoulders and hips get sore, I find myself HALF laying on my side and HALF lying on my back. That really helps. I would talk to your doctor or midwife.

I stopped sleeping on my back when I was around 15 weeks. It wasn't just comfortable anymore. Occasionally I still do sleep on my back but no more than 5 min because it feels like someone has put a big rock on my belly that's pushing my belly down.
