Thanks ladies, I went to my ultrasound appointment today and turns out I'll be having a 8-9 pounder! I definitely don't think he will be needing preemie diapers then. Thanks anyways ladies, I appreciate it :)

My son was born weighing 6 pounds 7 ounces and was 19 inches long. He wore newborn diapers in the hospital but the first night home was horrible! He peed through every diaper, nightgown, and sheet we had. It was miserable for him and for us. The next day my husband went out and bought some preemie diapers and they worked wonderfully until he could fit into newborn diapers. I have thought about buying some for this baby but have no idea if he is going to be tiny or not. My plan is to wait until he is born and then if we need to, we can stop at the store to pick some up. My son also wore preemie clothing for a bit too, but I don't want to buy anything until we know his size.

I would not buy them, of your baby happens to be tiny you can always ask someone to pick you some up
After :) my daughter was born at 38 weeks she came out 6 13 and wore preemie for a couple weeks :)

This is totally a parent/child preference and will continue to be through till toilet training!
I've worked for many families and have found they all have a personal preference for how the diaper fits. I've seen normal sized 12 months olds in size 5 diapers and normal sized 20 months olds still in size 3 diapers. Some people like them snug to babies bottom others like them loose and for them to have a higher rise on babies waist etc.
Personally I wouldn't stock up on many diapers at all until baby is here. Get one pack of each and try them out on your baby. It really isn't that hard to send someone out to buy some diapers after baby is here, and seems like much less hassle than having 5 packs of diapers that are way to small when you need diapers.

My dd was 7 lbs 3 oz and I started with Pampers newborn. It was slighty big, but no leaking. I wouldn't want it to be any smaller for comfort reasons. And they sure do grow fast! So I think starting with newborn size is just fine.

No. Preemie diapers are extremely tiny and too small for newborn babies. Some larger newborns even go straight to size 1.
