Q: Caffeine and pregnancy

I'm really craving lattes lately..I'm almost 15 weeks and i just want a cup! Is that unhealthy? The only thing dr told me is to avoid having tea right after my iron pills..and have them 2 hours later (because caffiene absorbs iron or something)...but she said "tea" ..does that go for lattes as well..can i have some as long as i have them after my iron pills by few hours

Also i heard that u shouldnt have anything with calcium after ur iron pills..because calcium also absorbs iron.. so i cant have eggs or milk with them?? is this true?

I didnt know with my first that ya couldnt drink coffee an I drank about 10 mugs a day, he turned out super healthy, I drank coffee with 2 and 3 too, i also drink cola, when I was pregnant with number 4 I decided i wouldn drink caffine at all, an I had a mc at 11 weeks, so it all means nothing to me, I have never had a single problem drinking caffine when pregnant.

I work at Starbucks, and we get SO MANY pregnant women. There were a few years where women were avoiding caffeine like the plague, but its become much more acceptable. Back in the 80s women drank soda like water, lol. Most doctors say if you keep yourself around 200mg a day you should be fine. You can have any size latte from Starbucks, because only two shots go into the grande/venti size. Personally, I am much more cautious about the amount of SUGAR in my drinks than the amount of caffeine. Some drinks have a ton of sugar! I would recommend checking out the website of where ever you are getting your latte from, that way you can make sure they aren't going crazy with sugar, caffeine and calories. Good luck and enjoy your drink!

My Dr gave me a sheet of Frequently Asked Questions. It said limit caffeine to 200mg a day. It also says a a medium size cup of coffee can have up to 150mg of caffeine. A soda, like coca cola, has about 40mg of caffeine. You'll be fine with your latte! Just keep the size in check

My doctor told me that caffeine is fine in moderation, so I asked what she meant by moderation because I cannot function without coffee in the morning. She told me that as long as I wasn't drinking a whole pot of coffee and half a case of sode that having a coffee in the morning and or an afternoon soda is not going to hurt anything.

My doc told me that caffiene was fine, as long as it wasn't pot after pot after pot of coffee. I'm sure one latte isn't a problem. If nothing else, call the doc office and ask them if its okay...all the docs have their own opinion.
