Asked by Love00

Q: I know caffeine should be avoided, not a coffee person at all. What about tea?

Can I have very very light tea. I have a middle eastern black tea that I love. I don't have to have it of course. However, would like to know. Will it hurt to brew some and then use very little of the brew and just add lots of water on it. Hence, making it very very light? Can it hurt? I am 7 weeks 1 day today.

Thank you ladies for your help!

i have drank lipton tea made from tea bags my whole life. i quit for 1 whole week when i was in high school, and i'll never do it again! I had such a horrible migraine from it. (tea is my drug.) i drink around a gallon a day, and have with all my pg. i had healthy pg with all 3 of my kids. i have had 3 m/c, but those were not from drinking tea. there were other complications. right now i am 5w5d, and i'm drinking about half a gallon per day. afaik, everything is fine. it never affected my 3 in utero or when i breastfed. ask your dr what's right for you.

I have been having 2-3 cups of tea a day - it settles my tummy from this lovely nausea i have and i'm 90% sure the caffeine content in this much (and even a bit more tea) is fine....I also have my tea strong - and did so throughout my first pregnancy also.

All of my doctors have said I can have about one cup of coffee a day (300 mg of caffeine). I'm not a coffee drinking and drink only tea. A cup of black tea has 40 mg of caffeine typically. That's up to 7.5 cups of tea a day that are safe...I wouldn't be too worried about 1 cup! I have 1 cup usually, sometimes 2. There are no definite studies that show major issues with caffeine, but they have some studies showing large amounts of caffeine can be an issue, so they are giving safe numbers for women to work with.

im not to sure about brewed tea but ive been drinking tea (english breakfast) from a tea bag. Ever since i got pregnant. Prior to pregnancy i was a 10 cup a day drinker. Now im down to about a 3 (at the most), i cant drink much more as i have a heart condition and pregnancy has made my heart so much worse any more than 3 teas and im sick. I read somewhere that you can have 4 cups of medium strength tea per day. Either way if your worried ask a doctor.
