Q: Should I worry?

I'm 17 weeks and haven't had any morning sickness for 7 weeks now, I am obese but eat healthy(despite my weight I've never been a fan of candy and chips etc. and don't even keep it in the house) I am still a few pounds under my pre pregnancy weight and am worried that I should be at least a few pounds above that starting weight. My clothes still fit and I have a bump as big as most women do at 7-8 weeks. I started feeling the baby move from time to time everyday a couple weeks ago but now I am lucky to feel a flutter every few days. I know I shouldn't stress about weight since being obese my ideal gain is only 11-15 pounds but to be near halfway in and no gain and only lose seems a little off to me.

Thank you, each and every one of you. I think I just got a little over excited about feeling the baby early, but I guess that happens or is more common the more pregnancies you have(this is my 3rd) I scheduled an appointment to see the doctor for Wednesday since I am due for a checkup anyways. Maybe I'm not eating the right kind of healthy things(I eat a lot of sugar snap peas, mushrooms, and carrots and broccoli with ranch) and I am lactose intolerant so the baby is losing out that way(I take calcium supplements)

I am also considered to be obsese - my doctor said it was actually ok if I didn't gain any weight with the pregnancy. I've actually lost 10 pounds - and she hasn't said a word about gaining. I wouldn't worry about it.

Im 15 weeks and I am down 12 lbs below my weight when I first found out I was pregnant.. Ive had severe morning sickness which has finally eased up now and i also feel flutters every now and then but even at 17 weeks, you wont feel every movement they make so dont panic about not feeling the baby daily! The movements will get stronger and you will feel them daily soon! As for your weight, as long as you are eating the amount of calories you should be every day, I wouldnt worry about it! I also lost weight during my first pregnancy and I now have a healthy 3 1/2 year old! You will be fine but just mention it to your dr next time just to be reassured! Congrats on your pregnancy! Dont stress or worry bc thats even worse for the baby! Just stay calm and make sure you are eating enough calories! Keep us updated on how your doing! :)

According to baby center: If you were overweight for your height (a BMI of 25 to 29.9), you should gain 15 to 25 pounds. If you were obese (a BMI of 30 or higher), you should gain between 11 and 20 pounds. - I believe this is for your whole pregnancy. You can read full article at

You should be fine. :)

I'm 13 weeks, and I've only gained two pounds, but lost one in a week and I never had any morning sickness that resulted in any vomiting, just nausea. I'm underweight so I should be gaining at least a pound a week and I'm not but my doctor doesn't seem worried about it. I've begun taking Ensure Plus for it's health properties and for it's claim to help with weight gain and maintaining a healthy weight. I wouldn't be too worried if your doctor isn't, but if you're really worried, I'd call and talk to him/her just in case. Good luck and congrats on the baby!

i am 18 weeks, and had morning sickness until 13 weeks... I lost 6 pounds. and now I am just 1 pound shy of my pre pregnancy weight. I too am only suppose to gain 15 to 20 pounds. The doctor told me that as long as I dont keep losing weight and can keep nutrients down, then everything is fine. but if you are conserned then talk to your doctor, thats what they are there for... as for the not feeling the baby as much, it may be sitting farther back in your uturus, and since your a bit heavier it will be harder for you to feel. (trying to not offend) but also talk to your doctor about this! You are getting to the point of pregnancy were they have you count kicks! Try not to stress to much! (i know its hard)

I'm 22 weeks and have only gained 3 lbs. I think it is perfectly acceptable to take longer to start gaining when you are starting off bigger. I am slightly overweight (BMI of 26) so I am not worried about gaining. My tummy just REALLY popped in the last few weeks so now I am starting to actually look pregnant. The longer it takes you to start gaining the easier it will be to stay in the small weight gain range you were given. Good luck, and unless your doctor is concerned, I wouldn't worry.
