Q: Anyone else decided not to do the Gestational Diabeties Test?? & Why?

My reasons are because;
The heatwave atm i'm worried i might pass out after i drink the stuff.
I dont like the taste.
Myself and my partner do not see the need to do this.
I dont have any symptoms of GD.
And i'm already 29, nearly 30weeks anyway.

I have GD and no symptoms. They do the test to help your unborn baby. I've been told there is a 2% chance by baby could just die in my womb or still birth. Sorry but I do think you're selfish for not going for the test.

There aren't symptoms for Gestational Diabetes. Hence why they test for it....smh.

You should do it. I went and had it done. Didn't have ANY symptoms (you usually don't because they are the same as pregnancy symptoms) and my 1hr test came back abnormal. Lucky for me the 4 hour one came back negative and everything is ok.

If you did have GD then it will have serious consequences for the baby and you should take that into consideration.

Not to be rude, but those sound like pretty selfish reasons. Its hot outside and tastes bad? Well that's something that almost all pregnant women have to deal with, and DO because they want their baby to be healthy. Wouldn't it be better to know for sure then to assume you are fine? What if you aren't and something happens to your baby? Like the PP said, you can develop it any time during your pregnancy. Its only a few hours, you will survive.

I have never done the GD test with any of my pregnancies ( I have three kids and am in my fourth) I don't plan on doing it for this baby either. My midwife keeps a close eye on my protein and sugar levels and I have never had an issue. I don't do allot of test that are routine in most practices. You just have to research and do what you think is best for you and your baby.

It's for the health of your baby my dear - test is not that bad I promise. But if there was something you could do to protect your little one - wouldn't you?

Just keeo your eye out for your blood sugar! :) I had to take this test two times with my last pregnancy, passed both times, and then ended up with high blood sugar the last weeks of pregnancy! and had to watch my sugar intake... If you have the money, or know someone with a blood tester, I would buy/ask to barrow... and just keep an eye on it!
