From what I've been told and read online, when you begin overweight you are supposed to gain somewhere between 11-25 lbs through the whole pregnancy. Since you have made your eating habits a lot healthier, it makes sense that you wouldn't be gaining so fast because your body is using the previous fat stores. It seems weird that your doctor wants you to gain weight when you're only 18 weeks. At that point your baby is still really small and hasn't started putting on any fat yet. When you get more towards 22-23 weeks, your baby hits 1 lb and then starts gaining quickly. I know I didn't gain anything until I hit 20 weeks and have gained 5 lbs since then. My midwife hasn't been concerned at all. I would just keep eating healthy and not worry about the weight unless you keep dropping. Good luck!

You're doing all the right things!! :) I only gained about 16 lbs this whole preganancy- but started out a little heavier and lost some weight. But I feel great and am due in a few weeks! Just listen to your body and trust your instincts. Eat healthy and small meals often!

I'm a similar size to you, 5'8" and I was 195 before pregnancy and I only gained 1 pound the first 20 weeks (weight went up and down during first trimester)! I have put on 3 more the last few weeks, so it is starting to kick in now that baby is getting bigger.
I wouldn't worry too much unless your doctor tells you to. If anything, losing some weight before will help you have less to lose after baby is born! I'm sure cutting out mountain dew and fast food has been part of the reason, as those two things have lots of extra calories. I haven't really changed how I eat, but I'm sure cutting out alcohol is what made me lose weight at the beginning, lol!
I'm aiming for gaining about 20 lbs total if possible, as the recommendation for overweight women, which I am, is 15-25 lbs total weight gain. But most importantly, I'm just trying to follow the guidelines for a healthy diet during pregnancy to give my baby the best I can. :)

Just wanted to add I eat a lot often now because I'm actually hungry not because I'm forcing myself too. Yes I did keep my son he's going to be 7 and is super excited to be a big brother in June! Also married for a year now. Just incase anyone tries to ask.
