Q: How accurate is a gender scan at 17 weeks?

I had a gender scan at 17 weeks and was told im carrying a girl...I was soo happpy and still am..but for the past two weeks i have been stumbling on some gender scan posts about having wrong reads before 20 weeks...so i've been doubting my results and that 17 weeks was too early anyways to see boy parts and could turn out to be a boy?!.. Is it always 100% accurate by 17 weeks?

To add- I was told at 16 weeks with my daughter and never questioned it and never had them look again until 36 weeks just before the baby shower. She was still a girl!

I had a scan at 12 weeks and my doctor thought she saw boy parts, but baby moved and she never saw them again. At 14 weeks she saw what could be either boy parts or the umbilical cord once then saw girl parts 2 times, both her and the nurse were leaning towards a girl. At 16 weeks I didn't ask (due to being sick..not the time for a gender scan), at 17 weeks the doctor confirmed its a girl, at 21 weeks still a girl, and at 22 weeks she is still a girl. If you have a very good picture of the genital area, you can usually tell. But it also depends on the tech and how experienced he/she is and whether they got a good view. It wont be 100% until the baby is in your arms anyway. Thats why I stock up on gender neutral clothing for the first few sizes (newborn-6 months)

Thank u!! I'm really getting attached to her being a "she"!! It would be confusing to me to find out they were wrong... Next scan is in 2 weeks at 21 weeks! So well double check then.

I read an interesting study that it can be up to 80% accurate as early as 12 weeks
Its never 100% accurate.

I wouldn't say its 100% accurate hun, only because even at 20 weeks pregnant its not completely 100% accurate, however I know a lady who was told at a private scan at 13 weeks and that was right! I have also heard of many woman having scans around 15/16 week mark and they were all correct too!

Do you get a 20 week scan where you live? If so then you could wait to tell people until you can double check at the 20 week scan. If not then, if your really unsure why not book yourself in for a private scan (of course only if you want and money allows it) I had a 20 week scan and was told a girl but even though the lady checked twice I still wanted a 2nd opinnion so got a private scan at 26 weeks!

Good luck and I'm pretty sure it would be correct so go team pink! :D xx
