Q: I'm wondering if anyone has Coeliac disease and how they have managed this with pregnancy?!

I have coeliacs, for about 12 years now. i do cheat here and there and am wondering what the effect would be on the baby. I want to do whats best for bubs, has anyone had advice from drs or dieticians or just personal experience on this?

I'm a coeliac and 25 weeks pregnant. I can imagine that eating gluten regularly would irritate your stomach lining so you can't absorb nutrients very well from your food (which is what makes you sick) and in turn the poor nutrition you have would be passed on to the baby. I know my grandmother probably had undiagnosed coeliac disease (the symptoms she described all fit) and she had a terrible time trying to conceive.

If you accidentally ate something wrong once or twice, in the long run i'm sure it would be ok. I figure, though, that in pregnancy my body already has a lot to struggle with and "cheating" just makes it harder for my body.

Eating at home is easy, but I find it very difficult to eat out with the coeliac + pregnancy restrictions, so I pack my lunch and snacks for work. When my hubby and I go out we tend to stick to some really brilliant restaurants we know are safe, and I try to organise outings with friends there too.
