A nice warm bath has helped me with lower back/hip discomfort. I also apply a sock filled with rice and microwaved for 1 minute. If neither the bath nor the sock are too hot, it should be perfectly safe for the baby. I'm also eating lots of steamed okra because it is very good for joint pain.

LanaB7 do you know if the heat bag is ok on lower back? I have one and used it a ton on my upper back/neck and my rib (when I broke it in Dec). Every now and then my lower back is so bad I will use it down there for a bit. It does work wonders but I wasn't too sure if it's ok. I know on the belly is not ok...but is the lower back much different than belly?

I have a bean bag that I put in the microwave and heat up. I'm having back pain on my right side, and the warm bean bag really soothes it. I have a desk job, so it's helped quite a bit. It's still painful, but it makes me a little more comfortable. Maybe you can try something like that? Just don't put the heat on your stomach.

A pillow behind lower back while sitting helps me a fair bit. But I've just recently discovered that sitting on my large exercise ball and 'wiggling' around helps not only my lower back pain, but my hip and calf pain!!!
I now sit on it a few times a day, for 5-20 minutes. I just gently roll forwards and back, side to side, around in circles etc. I think it just helps loosen up all the tense muscles that have been stuck in one place since I am too big to move around much.
I first tried it after days of bad hip pain and it worked a ton then I realized it was also helping my back and if I do bigger movements it stretches out the calves too! I already had the ball but would say it is definately worth buying one if you don't have it!!

i've been getting bad back pain the last few weeks, i find my self having to hold my back rocking back and forward then having to walk round. i suffered from back pain before hand anyways and was put on codmaol for it, but can't really have that when you pregnant.

The last few weeks of my pregnancy I saw a massage therapist that specialized in prenatal massage and it helped wonders. I couldn't be in a car for even 5 minutes without being in extreme pain and after seeing her I felt great each time. I saw her once a week until my little man was born.
