Q: How soon should I make an appt? and more!

I'm about 5 weeks and have been seriously wondering whether I should wait to make my first appointment or not.

Part of my problem is my lack of experience (first Pregnancy! WOOT!).
Another problem is the question of "where to go?" I've had six different doctors recommended to me, but the one I would LIKE to go to doesn't deliver.
(btw, I've never even had a girly appointment before, so me=FREAKED)

Any of you ladies been here? if so what did YOU do, and what would you recommend?

Thanks ladies! I called the local women's health center where my sister and niece go. I have an appointment set for next tuesday. A gal in billing called me today, though, and said something about me showing up not covered under my Pop's insurance. I know I am, he just took care of all that, so what could it be, I wonder?

Call an OB asap and tell them you have never had a pap (I assume that's what you meant by never had a 'girly' appt). They will probably see you at 8 weeks at the latest, but may want to see you sooner.

If your unsure who to use, you can call and ask any questions that are important to you. Also remember to ask where they deliver, etc, because they may help your decision. I would call now and when you pick a doctor schedule an appt now. They will tell you when they want you to come in (varies a bit doctor to doctor), but usually the pregnant lady doesn't decide when the appt should be.

I would make an apt soon. Some drs. are really booked out and usually intake is around 8 weeks. Totally true, if you dont like a dr you have picked you can totally switch. you should be comfortable and confident in your ob/gyn. Personally I would only see a woman and that is just what I am comfortable with. Expect to do a pap smear and exam, which can be uncomfortable but is usually quick. Deep breathes when you feel nervous and by the end of your pregnancy you ll be surprised to find that you look forward to them "checking your progress" and wont thing twice about an exam. Good luck, deep breathes and relax.

I would talk to friends family co-workers that have seen the reccommended drs and make a decision from there. You can also pick one go to the dr and if you dont like him/her change. As far as the girly part just relax and tell the dr its your first time and ask for an explaination of the process. But i would go ahead and schedule your appt so you can arrange work schedule etc to take time off for the appt since it will be a lengthy one. Hope i helped.
