My grandfather was japanese so I have a japanese first name but my middle name is German. Nothing about me is German at all. Being that Japanese can't seem to pronounce L, it is also weird that my name is Michiko Gisala. I love my name though and would not change it for anything. I had a good time in Japan and when I was in Germany people would call me by my middle name. I say name your son whatever name you want, society doesn't have any say in your decision. Makoto is a very handsome name.

Strange, but wonderful. :) if you're worried about it, maybe use a middle name that suits whatever background your from, or use makoto for the middle and have a different first.
but again. LOVE the name makoto.
I'm a total white girl, but I love black names and korean names. :)

ummmm, well, for me and my husband we have chosen an older gaelic name...but we are white and the name "matches" that. I dont think your name has to match your skin colour or ethnic background but it is a bit odd to meet a white kid with a very Japanese name....not bad, just odd.

i think that whatever you want to name your child is your decision. there are lots of people who name their kids with names from other cultures. my name is gaelic, and my family is from scotland. my sister's name is spanish (terra), and my other sister and brother have english names. i don't think it really matters, as long as it's what you want.
