Q: Mixing two types of formulas?

I feed my 6 week old son Similac Advance and he goes through one 30$ can a week and it's getting quite expensive. Since for the powder formula it is 1 scoop per 2 oz and my son drinks 4oz bottle, is it ok to use 1 scoop of Similac Advance and 1 scoop of regular Similac per bottle? I will be asking my nurse tomorrow but I want several opinions too.

For clarification: I wasn't considering adding cereal to his diet, I agree he is way to young for that. I was asking if any mothers have mixed two types of powder formula (Similac advance and regular Similac).

As for those who are judging: I DID NOT CHOSE TO FORMULA FEED, I breast fed my son for a month and then no longer produced enough so I was forced to switch to formula. And even if I did make that choice it would be none of your business really and formula fed baby do get all the nutrients needed. Formula feeding parents are just as good parents as breast feeding ones.

Ignore the self-righteous member below. It's nobody's business to tell you what you "should have done", and you can't turn back time anyway. Obviously, you probably have your own reasons for not breastfeeding. Having said this, breastfeeding is a much cheaper option and if you do feel you'd prefer to be breastfeeding (if you can), then it might not be too late to switch back. A lactation specialist would be able to help you. Sorry, I know it doesn't really answer your question, but if you're concerned about money it might be an option to consider.

also, powder formula is not recommended until the baby is over 2 months old. he should be drinking the liquid.

if u havnt got the money for formula, u should have been breastfeeding. its healthier and FREE!! why would u not breastfeed (or at least pump) if u cant afford to feed your baby?? u should have looked into the cost of formula and the amount u would go through before deciding to formula feed. and adding cereal is a bad choice, dont do that. your baby is totally normal and doesnt need anything added

I have no idea about the mixing but please don't be tempted to add cereal!
4oz's at six weeks does not indicate a hungry baby, my son Will happily drain 7 and two hours later be hungry again. When babies are weaned the drink much less anyway so it may just be a case of finding the extra money for a while, especially if your baby is settled and happy on the forma your using.

This is tongue-in-cheek. She is not actually saying how to be a bad mother, but I thought that it was helpful in figuring out blending formulas and switching. I am with Lala, I think he's too young at 6w to add cereal.

From what I've heard, you aren't supposed to start cereal or anything other than formula/bm until they are 6 months old. I would definitely talk to the doctor before trying that. Your doctor may approve it, but definitely ask before risking it.

I would not cause it may hurt there his tummy. You are his mother and you are the only one who knows him better. I son ate alot to and I ask his doctor if it was okay, He stated it was okay to add cereal to his milk. I add a scoop of cereal to every 2oz of milk since then he does not eat as much any more.. Ask your doctor about the cereal thing it may help in the long run..
