Q: Can anyone relate to how bad it feels to gain maternity lbs after losing a large amount of weight?

Hi all, in my early 2nd trimester, and I've been teary-eyed all day regarding an 8lb total weight gain thus far..I just keep having flashbacks to being heavier, and how hard I worked to lose the weight over a two year period! I was just enjoying my thinner self when this pregnancy came along...How do I deal with this? I'd sure love some advice and feedback, as I just feel ugly, and hopeless today - I'm sure a lot of it is my hormones, but still... thoughts?? :-)

I too can relate too this issue and I battle myself everyday with gaining weight. I know that I have to gain weight for the baby but its so hard for me too face and accept. Right now I go to the gym around 4-5 days a week and work out for 1 hr to 1 1/2 if possible. But I dont always eat right either. I had my two children and gain with my first around 50 lbs and then got pregnant with my second 3 months after having my son and gained more weight. So for me I was 175 and I have worked so hard to get down to 120 only too see that I am gaining weight and I am 10 weeks. But keep your head up and don't have faith in yourself that you can do it again. But I have also head to breast feed which helped me with my first child and then I was also told to wear a girdle too keep you tummy contracted which will help. Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy.

I hear you. Before i got pregnant with my son i had just lost 30 lbs. I gained about35 pounds with him and then lost all but 10 pounds or so within the first few months. Then i got fat again. I put on 20 pounds over the next year and half and started this pregnancy heavier than i have ever been. I feel fat and useless, horribly unattractive and like the frumpy housewife i never wanted to be. Its hard and im really sad. I feel ugly and don't want people to see me. It hurts that my last pregnancy is this way. Regarding you, don't worry about 8 pounds. You are half way there!

No worries hon, lots of ladies can relate! If you are able to gain no more than 25 lbs you will be totally fine after baby comes and will be surprised how fast you lose it! I gained 23lbs with my first and lost it within the first month by doing.......absolutely nothing lol. Breastfeeding, and that was literally it. So do not worry too much about weight gain as long as it's a healthy amount. Gaining a 1lb every week and half is what I tried for and it sort of evened out in the end. Some weeks I lost weight and some weeks I gained 2 or 3 so it just depends I guess. Regardless of how much you gain, I think it's amazing that you were able to crack down and lose weight before getting pregnant so it just goes to show that you could do it again after baby comes out(easier said than done I'm sure). I wish I could do the same lol.

I just wanted to put my 2 cents in. I've always been thin. I've had 5 children already, this is my 6th pregnancy, and I've been able to regain my prepregnancy size each time! I've done it just by breastfeeding and walking! I'm not trying to rub it in anyones face, so please don't take it as such. But rather show all pregnant moms that it can be done! If I can do it 5 times you can certainly do it once! Just keep in mind that it will most likely take as long to loose it as it did to gain. It's taken me between a year with my first, 60lb gain,, to 6 months with my 2nd, 25lb gain. With the rest falling somewhere in between. You can do it! ! Eat right, invest in good jogging stroller, and most of all don't stress too much about it. I know easier said than done. You brought a life into the world. You're a strong, amazing woman! Happy & healthy pregnancy to everyone!

I can totally relate, after losing close to 40lbs it's been hard watching the scale creep back up. I'm now 37 weeks and have gained a total of 23lbs. My advice would be eat healthy and exercise, and you should only gain what you need to grow baby. My goal was to stay under 25lbs and I've just made it. It hasn't been easy, but I know I will lose the weight after baby. Stay positive and hang in there, it helped me to have a supportive dh to call me crazy everytime I started obsessing over the scale. :-)

Thejen75, I can totally relate and It is completely normal to feel like that. I lost around 120lbs and have kept it Off since 2005. We were having trouble getting pregnant and my dr said that I needed to gain some weight. I never thought I would ever hear that! Lol Anyway, I gained 20lbs...it wasn't easy at all. I went from 116 to 136. Since becoming pregnant, I've gained 2 more but that's only because I am so sick. I know 138 isn't huge but I am in total fear of gaining weight and not Being able to lose it again. When you work so hard to lose weight.....it is a very mentally challenging issue to gain any back for any reason. I know I will gain but I fear it. People tell me all the time that I shouldn't be worried about it but that's not going to happen! I just have to keep telling myself that it is about my baby's health and not about me gaining weight. Give yourself credit, 8 lbs is a healthy weight gain compared to some women's gain. Feel free to email me!
