Q: How much weight can you lift in your first trimester?

I'm a private care nurse and work alone in a home with a patient with stage three parkinsons and he needs to be lifted almost every day, a few times a day. He's about 160 pounds but feels much lighter to me bc im used to lifting him. I really wanted to stay with him until he passes ( i been with him 5 years in january) but if im going to risk my baby there is no way in hell im staying.

How much can I lift in second and third trimester?

Do you think I will risk having a miscarriage now? I'm only 4.5 weeks... DR appointment isnt until this wednesday 12/21

It is not great to lift anything during preg., but that is life. We have to lift, work, etc. But now is the time to let others do that stuff. I've heard the max is 30 pounds, but if you are like me, I had a subchorionic hemorrage throughout the second trimester and was told not to lift anything. In the first trimester I was scared to lift anything b/c of a previous mc. Now I am on bed rest for a separate reason and cannot lift anything or do anything! I understand it is hard to leave your work. I am a teacher and left a class full of young children behind and it tears me apart, but my baby is number 1. I just wouldn't chance it. Get someone else to do the lifting. Your patient will be so happy for you he or she would probably demand you not lift them either.

A friend of mine is in her 3rd trimester and isn't supposed to lift anything over 15lb. so she can't take her cast iron potroast out of the oven herself anymore! She's a lighter build and was always thin.

I am also a private care nurse but I do chldren, my dr advised me to try nothing over 30lbs but to go with how I feel, if I felt any pulling I was overdoing it. If your doing a complete lift that really may be too much for you to continue to do. My heaviest is 90lbs but I have a track lift for them so I don't lift her, I am 23 weeks now and I have noticed that my 30lbs is almost getting to be too much for me in the last few weeks. I would honestly say just call your dr and ask what they recommend and just explain your situation, If there is no one else at the house able to assist you you may find that you'll need to take a break from that patient after awhile=( I can completely understand how you feel though I've had my girls for 5 years and my boy for 2! Good Luck!
