My infant seat I can't use without base. I wish I would have known that before I purchased it. you would have to look up your seat online for the Manuel.

Go to your local fire department. They will show you and be sure that everything is safe and fits your car correctly.

May I ask why you don't want to use the base(I loooove having a base)? I don't know how to install one without the base so I'm no help there but I will say that if it's used it's best not to use it. Not saying that's the case at all. I'm surprised by how many people use second hand car seats though, just a little too risky for me. I live in Canada though so maybe I'm spoiled by how often adjustments are made in car seats every year to make them the safest. My first aid class say every two years you need to replace the infant car seat.

You can also stop by your local State Police Station and they will assist you in installing your car seat correctly. I know the State Police in my town will do that. All car seats are different to me so I would have to actually have it in front of me LOL!

Read the manual for sure. You do NOT want to risk anything happening because you didn't do it right. If you don't have the manual, search for your brand online. I'm sure you can find the manual in pdf form somewhere. In fact, just a few hours ago I looked up my car seat to find the exact same thing and on the brands website they had the manual.

Yep....most car seats can be installed without a base, but it's waaaaay more convenient to use one. You'll need to look at the manual to make sure that the seatbelt is positioned correctly and locked correctly. Also, any fire department will do this for you.
