Q: Is lower abdominal pain at 14 weeks normal?

Hello ladies. I am pregnant with my first child 14 weeks today. The past week I have been experiencing lower side and back discomfort... Not super painful but uncomfortable. The past two nights I have had a sickly, high pressure feeling above my pubic bone and under my belly button on both sides. I haven't had any bleeding. Not sure if I should call my doctor or what??

Around the same time during my pregnancy (I'm 26 weeks now) I actually ended up going to the ER a couple of times. I couldn't hardly even walk at one point, and the last time I thought I was in preterm labor. Turns out most women experience Round Ligament Pain as a few shooting pains when they move too fast, but some of us have a really rough time with it. Every time I went to the ER they would call my OB and they always said that if there was no bleeding there was nothing they could/would do! It subsided for me around 21 weeks.

I had something very similar start for me around 14 weeks. It got so severe that there were a couple days where I could not walk. I of course went to the doctor, and I was told that it was ligament pain and completely normal from 14 to 20 weeks. She said as long as there wasn't bleeding or contractions it was just normal pain and the more active you are the less you will feel it. However, if you are worried, I definitely recommend calling the doctor. It gave me peace of mind, and that was so worth the extra trip to the doctor.

In all agree with babyspraker + a few add ons for you!
Every uterus grows at different rates and you could be experiencing slightly early round ligament pain as all the muscles stretch beyond what we're used to.
I found with this pregnancy being my first I had a bit of discomfort around the same weeks and I put it down to the uterus going through a growth spurt causing RL pain and also because it shifts out of the lower pelvis in weeks 12-14 for most people. Around weeks 13 and 14 for me I found my back can get quite sore and it was this same time I was gaining a bit of that pregnancy arch in the lower back.
Our bodies are going through so many changes - we just have to be kind to them as much as possible but always if in doubt - ask your caregiver! That's exactly what they're there for!

For TMI but help: if you are getting this pain, avoid too many sexual positions that involve arching the back! They make your body feel 20+ years older than they are afterwards ;)

You could call and ask about it, thats what they are there for. But it could just be the achs and pains of pregnancy. Remember, your uterus is growing at rapid speed and baby is, too. It could just be the stretching and moving of everything. But if you call and they are concerned, they'll check ya out. I know a lot of people complain about pain around their belly button. I never felt that, but I know of a lot who did. Like I said, if you're concerned, call. You aren't the first person to call with questions! Good luck!
