Q: Are they any good?

I was just wondering if any of you ladies have tried the fetal dopplers for at home? Are they any good?

We love ours. Even at 22 weeks I use it occasionally just to make sure he's still in there. We especially use it when he has had a quiet day and doesn't kick much. It's always comforting to hear him :)

I was thinking of renting one for a month to see what it's like before I buy one and it would be nice for my little girl to hear the heartbeat she always asking about the baby

I have a fetal doppler. I love it! I used it alot from 8 weeks to about 14 weeks, and every now and then, now. I think it is very soothing and relaxing to just sit there and listen and you can actually hear them moving around in there..lol. Just to let you know, the heartbeat does fluctuate alot. it can be anywhere from 130 to 160 and go down and up while you're listening. Perfectly normal.

I love mine and it totally put my mind at ease when I was having doubts. I don't use it quite as often as I did early on, but I like having it just in case. I bought it on amazon for 50$ , so it wasn't too expensive and it was definitely worth it. It's very easy to determine the baby's heartbeat, as it is much faster than your own. And the further along you are, the easier it is to find the heartbeat.

I love my home doppler! I got it for my last pregnancy and it's been a real reassurance after having so many miscarriages! With the last baby, i heard the heartbeat at 9 weeks, with this one, i heard it at 7 1/2 weeks. About once a week, the hubby and i get it out and take a listen for a few minutes. It's been really nice to be able to track his heartbeat and listen to him moving around. He is strong enough to kick the probe now and you can really hear it! I've loaned it out to a couple friends in between pregnancies and they have all loved it too. If you are someone who has had multiple miscarriages, i highly recommend getting one. It has given me real peace of mind, especially in the beginning, when i was going through the time frame where i lost all the other pregnancies. It also really helped my DH create a bond with the baby early on when he could hear something real in there. Now that i'm almost 18 weeks, i don't use it as often because i can feel alot of movement now.

Oooh you are so close!! I had tiny ones then too and by 18-19 weeks they were plenty strong :). If you can, save the money and hold off at least a few more weeks and see if you feel content enough with the kicks. Mine didn't kick super often for the first bit, maybe a few times a day, but now I get regular strong kicks throughout the day and I find it more than enough reassurance that all is well. If you feel the same way you can put that money toward something else or spend it on a relaxing pedicure for mommy :)

I planned on just using the kicks but I'm only 17weeks and they are still very week and I haven't noticed them as much recently which is why I was asking.. I thought having one might put my mind at ease a bit lol

I have seen mixed things on here. I did a lot of research and decided they weren't worth it because they can create more anxiety than relief and there is a reason that you are advised not to have more ultrasounds than necessary-plus the home dopplers send out stronger frequencies than the doctor's office. That said, I am 21 weeks and apparently I can hear the heartbeat now with a regular old stethoscope. If you can wait that long, you might consider a more low-tech, old fashioned method like that? I have read though that tracking baby's kicks is way more useful to a mother than hearing the heartbeat once a day and sometimes one can mistake their own hb for baby's and not seek a doctor when they otherwise would. If you do decide to get one, the ones that cost a little more tend to yield better results-Amazon sells several models and you can read lots of reviews to see what fits your needs best.
